That contrary to all that has been allowed to be reported here, that the reasons for going into Afghanistan involved the laying of a pipeline that the Barge could use to transport oil to markets it wanted desperately to control, the other reason being to get the opium trade back up and running so they could generate more cash for themselves.

Actually it was a gas pipeline proposed by Unocal in the mid 1990's to transport natural gas from Turkmenistan to Pakistan.

But don't let facts get in the way of a good yarn. Please continue...

It's true. I have it on good authority. Supporters of the New England Patriots would never lie to me.

It must be so hard to be you.

He who laughs last laughs best.

Jon, you close your mind at the first sentence if it conflicts with you fantacy.

lb

What fantasy? You mean the one where I pretend the world isn't run by some all-powerful, sinister cabal?

Would you please explain why the bail outs make the least bit of sense as national policy?

It seems evident that the big money has control of the government and is doing everything to secure their own interests at the expense of the populace.
The dogma lives loudly within me.

The government has to bail them out because they know the secret behind the staging of 9-11?

Which bail outs? You mean IndyMac? It was required by law. If we didn't bail it out there would have been runs on a lot of banks. I disagree with the FDICs decision to pay 50% of deposits over 100k, though. Frankly I was surprised they had the authority to make that call. But preventing runs on banks is good national policy.

Fannie and Freddie? My initial thoughts were to let them fail. (By the way, I posted here last year that the Democrats push to increase their limits was folly and that they were time bombs).

Treasury's concerns were two (from what I can tell). Firstly, they are the only functioning part of the mortgage market. Secondly, they were worried about the effect on the dollar if Asian and Middle Eastern central banks and sovereign wealth funds lost confidence in it - China in particular is a major holders of agency bonds.

I don't find the first argument convincing. The second is more so. Paulson was probably right.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Lot of whistling past the graveyard in this one...

While I'm not sure about David's definition of "The Barge", if y'all don't think that a fairly small cadre of deep-pocket, old money folks which have a tremendous influence on elections and policy, you're too naive to be given sharp instruments at the dinner table....

I asked for specific predictions, which were not forthcoming....

And I guess I'm naive because I don't believe that there's a small cadre of old money folk running things in some organized conspiratorial manner. (But of course rich people use their wealth to further their goals, and I don't know how much of an effect that has, but I doubt it's an invisible motor powering everything).

(Two of the richest people in the world, Buffet and Gates, are giving all their money away, which is something I could reasonably project from my naive world view. Maybe they're not so different from me after all.)

Huge successful long term conspiracies violate the basic axiom of human incompetence and selfishness. They don't exist because they can't exist. They would require too much cooperation, compromise, competence, and selflessness within the conspiring group.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

The central belief of every moron is that he is the victim of a mysterious conspiracy against his common rights and true deserts. He ascribes all his failure to get on in the world, all of his congenital incapacity and damfoolishness, to the machinations of werewolves assembled in Wall Street, or some other such den of infamy.

I don't see what's so wacky about that. Surely everyone knows it's at least based on truth. Replace the word 'alien' with the word 'German' and you're pretty much there. As far as the shape-shifting goes, one word: Camilla.

I just looked up the Wingding equivalent of 'Bachophile is going on holiday', and it came out almost identical to the famous message found on the tomb of Tutankhamun, which I would post here except for the fact that I've received a number of threats which indicated that if I divulge what I know, my pet gerbil's life is forfeit. This is slightly confusing, since I would have thought that the Illuminati would know I don't have a gerbil, but I don't want to take any chances in case I ever decide to buy one for the kids, or for any other hobbies I might take up in later years if the prostate starts playing up.

The other reason I'm not posting it is I can't figure out how to paste Wingdings into my post, but that's really secondary to the main reason.

that was probably the greatest archeological find in history with the exception of the recovery of my cuff links from a tomb in Jerusalem.

Gates and Buffet (the son of Jimmy Buffet, incidentally) are both ghastly nouveau-riche types. There is no genuine old-money in America, other than stolen Aztec gold and back-taxes owed to the English monarchy.

My father-in-law is old money. The last time he bought a round he paid for it in groats.

Bullsh1t.

You know perfectly well Burton is referring to something far more sinister than the old boys network of bloated and fat assed JR Ewing types down at the Dallas, Houston or Calgary Petroleum Clubs.

If that ridiculous crap were written by the someone like Madame K or her spouse the make believe conservative crew in this bar would be all over them like a dirty shirt and taking them to task for hallucinating such utter crap in public.
