So, are you Fonda or Hopper?
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Fonda or Hopper.... Probably a mix of both.

Right now, I'm a residential area-riding dork. :lol2:

Holy crap!!! :hair: I get aggravated enough by cellphone users, when I'm driving my Jeep. I can only imagine the RAGE I'm going to feel at them, when I'm on the bike. For all of your injuries, are you okay, now?

You meant is he OK PHYSICALLY, right?

I don't think the bike has anything to do with the rest of it.
It would be unwise to underestimate what large groups of ill-informed people acting together can achieve. -- John D'Oh, January 14, 2010.

Just looked at my charger/maintainer, and there is a set of leads/pigtail that can be permanently attached to the battery and then tucked under the seat, so that when the bike is in the garage, all I have to do is pull the pigtail from beneath the seat and plug in the charger. How cool is that? :thumb:

Hey Frank - did they cover that skill where you accelerate really quickly out of an intersection and bring the front wheel up to your chin for 1/4 mile?
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Yes they did. Actually, a girl in the class demonstrated. She rode a wheelie for about twenty feet. When she let off of the throttle, instead of freaking out, she just rode around and got in line for the next skill. Cool as a cucumber. An instructor came over to her and said, "What happened?" She said, "Oh, my hand slipped off of the clutch." She seriously didn't know how to ride a motorcycle at all, and it was pure accident. But the way she was so cool about it... Everyone was crackin' up.

I wasn't there, but from what you said Ima guess that wasn't an accident.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

For all of your injuries, are you okay, now?

To look at me, you wouldn't know I was a cripple. :sombrero:

I have minor limitations in flexibility of my left knee and right shoulder, but there is no pain, an even though I have enough stainless steel implanted in me to make a small handgun, I can't even so much as predict the weather. Running, however, is another story. Not that I ever liked doing it, but if I run now, my left knee starts making a clunking sound. I interpret that as not a good sign.

I count myself as extremely fortunate.

I don't know... She wasn't the type to go showing off like that. Most of the time, she seemed like she was half-scared to death of the bike.

I'm glad... Loss of range of motion is unfortunate, but that happens to most of us as we age, anyway.

I plan on taking this all very slow and being very comfortable with my bike and my skills before I start really making long road trips and stuff.

Traveling long distances by motorcycle is probably one of the most "Zen" experiences there are in modern life, IMO.

I don't know... Scuba diving is pretty "Zen." But yeah... I'm looking forward to doing long road trips, too. :thumb:

I thought the maintenance was the Zen part.

Went down to the DMV, got my license renewed with motorcycle provision, and then went over and got my insurance done. Holy sh!t, insurance was expensive! $362/year.

I think the deal was, they looked at the value of the bike and the engine size and pursing their lips in disapproval said, Hot rod.... They don't care that it's a cruiser and not a sports bike. Hrmph...

Whatever.... I'm licensed and insured, so I'm set. :thumb:

Frank, what coverage do you get for $362?

I pay ~$650 a year for my insurance(not a sport bike, either), but in that I'm paying extra - a *lot* extra - for uninsured/underinsured coverage, which is something not included in "full-coverage" motorcycle insurance here in SoCal. I've gotten the impression that practice is fairly universal in the m/c insurance community.

Waaaaay back in the day, at a time when I sold motorcycles, I wrote policies for McGraw. At that time, I learned just how much it costs an 18-25 y-o single white male in insurance for the pleasure of owning a financed Japanese sport bike. :hair:

My liability and UI/UI limits are higher, but that's essentially the same coverage I have.

Y'all done good, boy.

I hopped on the bike last night and rode up and down my street, and thought, Hey, this feels pretty good!

I waited until it cooled down a little bit, because yesterday was hotter than hell, and then I took the bike to the end of my street, turned onto the highway and took off for the little town of Wartrace, which is about seven miles away, long and straight, with gentle curves, and 55mph, most of the way. I had the bike up to 75mph, and it just purred... OMG... It was GREAT!!!

When I got to town, the train was coming. I didn't feel like waiting any longer, and there were no cars in the oncoming lane, because of the train, so I flipped a U and headed back towards home. I pulled into a gas station and bought a Coke, smoked a cigarette, and then headed home. I couldn't stop grinning, and decided to ride to work, this morning.

This morning, the air was cool and dry, and there was no one on the road... Completely uneventful, except that now, I'm totally in love with riding!!! WHOOHOO!!

:D <----bugs in teeth? :lol2:

Congratulations Frank, Your going to love the bike more as you get more comfortable with it. You can even ride it in the winter on the open road, just get in the draft of a semi and it is as warm as toast.

My position is simple: you jumped to an unwarranted conclusion and slung mud on an issue where none was deserved. Quirt 03/08/09
