Under different circumstances I might have considered it a hoax or prank but now I know.

I'm trying to imagine what circumstances those might be.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

All the e-mails I get from Africa promise me large quantities of someone else's money. 'Most felicitous greetings, Mr. D'Oh...etc'. I've always written those off as hoaxes - maybe I've been overly suspicious?

Yes you have - but never fear. I can still get you in on some big bucks. I'm in the process of having 30 million dollars transferred into my bank account. I'll be happy to cut you in on it, oh... say 10 million? I will send you a cashier's check for 5,000 dollars to start, but I need you to only put 2K of it in your bank, and send me 3K back in cash to enable me to start the transfer of the larger sum of money......

Candidate for President

...

I guess that all sounds pretty reasonable to me.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

This election is silly enough already thank you very much without the need for Oliver Stone style conspiracy theories.

Then again, the ludicrous nature of the whole over-blown and seemingly endless dog and pony show could be an illuminati plot contrived to stop 'normal' people from taking an interest and digging too deep. Hmmmmmm.....though this idea of course pre-supposes the idea of 'normal' people actually existing in America. My vast knowledge of the country, gained solely from watching reality TV, indicates that there are in fact only 3 normal people left, and one of those is an Englishman who sits next to Paula Abdul.

Thing is, he actually is the most normal one.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!
