It's just an agreement that we don't cut off people's heads on buses.

Now you're getting it! :thumb:

Can we make an agreement that you won't cut off our heads when you visit?

:P

Sure, as long as the agreement is mutual. :D
I won't chop off your head if you don't chop off mine.
Oh and that goes for arms too, and toes and . . .

Actually after all this time I'm pretty confident that you and the missus understand all the customary agreements - otherwise I'd find me a dang hotel. :hair: :lol2:

Truly horrific. I can't recall anything like this ever happening here.

I'll likely never take a Greyhound or Red Arrow again.

Caton said the victim boarded in Edmonton, was Aboriginal in appearance, was wearing hip-hop clothing and appeared to be around 20 years of age.

Clearly a case of elder disrespect.

For sure he was wearing sandals maybe even flip flops. Did they mention if he was wearing a hat?

Decapitation suspect appears in court

(CNN) -- A 40-year-old man was charged with second-degree murder Friday in connection with the stabbing and beheading death of his seatmate on a Greyhound Canada bus, authorities said.
Police investigate the scene near Portage la Prairie, Canada, on Thursday.

Police investigate the scene near Portage la Prairie, Canada, on Thursday.

Vince Weiguang Li of Edmonton, Alberta, stood silent before a judge Friday in the Provincial Court of Manitoba in Portage la Prairie, the Associated Press reported.

A prosecutor sought a psychiatric evaluation of the defendant, but the judge said he'd wait until Li had obtained an attorney, AP reported. Li is due back in court Tuesday.

The body of the 22-year-old male victim is to be autopsied Friday, police said. The victim's name was not released.

However, the Canadian Press named the dead man as Tim McLean, 22, of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

McLean was repeatedly stabbed and then decapitated by the man sitting next to him on a Greyhound Canada bus Thursday west of Portage la Prairie in Manitoba.

Garnet Caton, who was sitting in front of McLean, talked of a "bloodcurdling scream" when the attack began.

"It was like something between a dog howling and a baby crying, I guess you could say," Caton said. "I don't think it will leave me for a while."

Passengers exited the bus, and a trucker who stopped provided wrenches and crowbars to several of them so they could keep the suspect on the bus until police came, witnesses told Canadian TV.

The attacker was taken into custody after an hours-long standoff, during which he remained in the bus with the victim's body. Police said Thursday he was seized after he broke a window and attempted to jump from the vehicle.

Several media outlets named McLean as the victim and said he had been returning home after working on a booth at an Alberta fair.

William Caron, 23, of Winnipeg, told Canadian Press he had known McLean since they went to school together.

"I knew he was coming back from the [exhibition]. ... My brother was supposed to go meet him at the bus depot and he never showed up. And then my younger brother and my other brother went to go to his parents' place to see if they know anything, and they saw a bunch of news people there. And then they asked at his parents' and that's how we found out," Caron said.

By early Friday there were scores of condolence messages on Facebook groups set up to remember McLean.

Caron and his wife, Jodi, were among the first to leave notes.

"We love you so much," wrote Jodi. "The kids will miss you so much and so will William and I. You were a great person, always happy and loved and had an amazing personality."

"I can't believe this is happening," wrote Leah Dryburgh of Winnipeg. "Tim, you were the best guy ever. You didn't deserve this at all."

Witnesses on the bus said McLean had been sleeping with his head leaning against the window when the attack happened.

Colwell said there was no immediate indication of what prompted the attack. He said he didn't know how many times the victim was stabbed. Witnesses described the weapon as a large butcher-type knife. Video Watch Colwell discuss the case »

Colwell praised the "extraordinary" calmness and bravery of the bus driver and passengers.

"What you saw and what you experienced would shake the most seasoned police officer. And yet I'm told that each of you acted swiftly, calmly and bravely," Colwell said. "As a result, no one else was injured."

The bus was traveling along the Trans-Canada Highway from Edmonton to Winnipeg, and was about 45 minutes from its destination when the attack occurred, Greyhound spokeswoman Abby Wambaugh said in Dallas, Texas.

Caton told the AP that the attacker didn't sit near the victim when he first got on the bus, about an hour before the attack.

"He sat in the front at first; everything was normal," Caton said. "We went to the next stop, and he got off and had a smoke with another young lady there. When he got on the bus again, he came to the back near where I was sitting. He put his bags in the overhead compartment. He didn't say a word to anybody. He seemed totally normal."

Half an hour later, the attack began, Caton told the AP. "There was no rage or anything. He was like a robot, stabbing the guy."

I, of course, cant know how things were on that bus while it was happening, but its bothering me that a bus full of people made no effort to intervene. They say he had no rage, was just stabbing calmly, wasnt concerned with anyone else on the bus. Seems a few guys could have jumped him, once they knew he was actually stabbing someone, could possibly turn on a next victim, and they were in that closed "we're on our own" environment of a greyhound bus.

Can you imagine being that guy, being stabbed in front of 37 people, and everyone just looks at you and runs away. I mean, I know there were children there and all, and the must have been a panic. But seems like the guy that they interviewed sitting right in front of him was able bodied and level headed.

This story is just sickening me.

I think it would have been for the best if this story had somehow magically never been publicized.

not that i'm for restricting the press from reporting it, and not that the press did anything wrong by reporting it.

I just think the world would be a slightly better place if somehow magically this event had never been publicized.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Yes, Horace, you are so right.
The story is everywhere; tv, papers, and there really is no good to come from it. You can't even get angry about it; that would do nothing. It's just horrible, horrible, horrible.

I normally don't follow this kind of thing - but I've been reading the articles on this one. In the CBC article, it says quite a bit more about the guy who was arrested. 40. No criminal record. Friendly. Just weird.

I was on a Greyhound, and there was this guy that kept going into the bathroom every fifteen minutes to smoke crack. Every time, the bus driver would wait about ten seconds and then goose the brakes. From inside the bathroom, I heard, ka-THUMP! and then the guy's voice, God DAMMIT!!!! In the big overhead mirror, I could see the bus driver's face, and he would smirk a little... :lol2: :lol2:

PETA ad takes advantage of the horror.

Compares attack to slaughter of Animals

Quote:

An animal rights group has posted an ad on its website comparing the recent stabbing and decapitation of a young Winnipeg man to how humans kill animals for food.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said the advertisement is meant to make people understand how animals suffer when they are killed in slaughterhouses. The group posted the imageless advertisement on its blog site Wednesday.

"PETA's ad…is meant to spur people to think about the terror and pain experienced by animals who are raised and killed for food. The group aims to demonstrate that animals — just like humans — are made of flesh, blood, and bone and deserve protection from needless killing," said a statement on PETA's website, also posted Wednesday.

Tim McLean, 22, was stabbed and then beheaded by a fellow passenger as the two rode an eastbound Greyhound bus across Manitoba last Wednesday. The man accused of second-degree murder, Vince Weiguang Li, allegedly engaged in cannibalism during the attack, which occurred just west of Portage la Prairie.

Designed using large, bold type, the ad compares McLean's struggles to those endured by an animal being slaughtered for its meat. It then refers to Li's alleged act of cannibalism before saying, "It's still going on!"

In its statement, PETA said it intended to run the notice in the Portage Daily Graphic, the local newspaper in Portage la Prairie, Man. PETA also sent out a news release to major media outlets across Canada announcing its plan to run the ad in the Manitoba paper, according to a story on the newspaper's website Wednesday.

The paper's publisher Barry Clayton, however, said the advertisement is in bad taste and will not be allowed to run.

PETA acknowledges in the ad itself that the notice may be offensive to some, but spokesman Bruce Friedrich said the goal is to inspire people to think about what they can do to stop violence against animals.

"We can't do anything to bring Tim back or bring his family relief from their suffering. But all of us can ask what we personally can do to decrease our support for this sort of violence," Freedrick said.

PETA said it will discuss later this week whether to attempt to run the ad in other publications.

That's truly awful. Do those people have no respect for humanity at all? If the poor victim's family get to see this commercial it's presumably worth it, since a couple more teenagers are converted to vegetarianism.

Re Mr Li and this story, I've been following papers here: I doubt if Mr Li will do time in jail. I think the man will be in psychiatric hospital for the rest of his days. It's looking like paranoid schizophrenia. Mr Li is wanting to die himself, asking to be killed.
