Hi Ben.

I'm a long-time lurker and finally decided to come into the light.

Or, something like that.

I was at Six Flags Fiesta Texas all day, so I'm now having to respond to twenty posts at once :( here goes!

@ Jf: Well, at this point, Maine isn't really in my plans... My current list of schools is Baylor, Rice, Duke, Vanderbilt, Columbia, Harvard, MIT, Juilliard, and the New England Conservatory (the last four all being long shots :P but worth a try!). All those applications are going to take long enough as it is I think! :P But I will keep Maine in mind!

@ Sarah: Hahaha! Wow! :P Well my biggest news lately is that I decided I want to study piano in college.

@ Jon: I was born in Fort Worth but I only lived there for a year; I've spent the rest of my life in a Houston suburb. I am still playing the piano! And I'm working on a long list of big pieces for college auditions - you can read it all here in this thread :)

@ Mik: Yes! After a day in the hot San Antonio sun, I am very ready for some air-conditioned indoor fun :silly:

@ Jolly: I laughed out loud!!

@ Phlebas: Nope, no more online poker for me :P haha. I have taken to Dino Run recently though

@ Patty: Nice to meet you!

@ Everyone else: :wave2: and thanks for the warm welcome back!

Wholesome family fun, don't you think?
Identifying narcissists isn't difficult. Just look for the person who is constantly fishing for compliments
and admiration while breaking down over even the slightest bit of criticism.

We have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences.

Welcome back Ben.

I owe you a deep apology.

I have no doubt that you could potentially be a great pianist and I had no right to critique you so harshly. Belive it or not, it has actually been on my conscience ever since.

As far as college goes, it seems to me far better to find the teacher you want to work with before even choosing the school if that is possible.
You seem to have a real interest in Rachmaninoff (I call him “the wolf” because of his amazing eyes). I also like the assessment of his playing; “with arms of steel and a heart of gold.” You should probably try and find a teacher who loves Rachmaninoff as much as you do, or who plays his music as you would like to play it yourself. It wouldn’t hurt at all if that teacher was as passionate about Scriabin.

Best of luck to you.

Sorry for the delayed response; I was in the northeast US visiting colleges all last week.

David,

I honestly don't remember what you are talking about. Whatever happened, I will gladly accept your apology :) no need to worry about it!

I think your advice is very good, about choosing a teacher before a school, and I'll definitely keep that in mind as I'm applying to schools this fall and then choosing where to go in April. :)
