HOLY CARP!!!
|
I just sent this in a mass email to my family and friends. And would like to share it with you. Nathan and the boys are doing very well. Nathan's been back to work for several weeks now and in his own home. The foundation he has launched in Denise's memory is really starting to take off. The 20/20 episode should air this Wednesday, I'm not sure what time. The babies are very happy and very healthy. We had a pneumonia scare with Noah a couple weeks ago but he's fine now. They started daycare a couple days a week and so both Noah and Adam are picking up all kinds of illnesses. But! I really like their pediatrician. All in all, we are all doing as well as can be expected. We miss Denise more than we can say. It's all still very surreal. And it's been a great adjustment for us. People tell us to take things "day by day". Well, let me tell you, it's more like "minute by minute"! The main thing is, Nathan and the boys are doing really good. I'm very proud of Nathan. This news article will give you an idea of where his mind is at. It was in yesterday's paper. God bless you all and thank you for being here/there for us. We love you. Peggy Charlotte Sun (Port Charlotte, FL) July 20, 2008 A fun day to support a serious cause Denise Amber Lee Foundation to sponsor family event ANNE KLOCKENKEMPER Staff Writer NORTH PORT -- Before the school year opens Aug. 18, there is one more fun opportunity to support an organization near and dear to many. The Denise Amber Lee Foundation is sponsoring a Family Fun Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 16 at Dallas White Park, 5900 Greenwood Ave. "This is our first, and we hope to make it an annual event," said Jenn Singleton of the Denise Amber Lee Foundation. "August is Denise's birthday and (Denise and Nathan Lee's) wedding anniversary, so that's why we chose it." There will be face painting, bounce houses, food, vendors, pony rides, music and a dunk tank with several political candidates. But the focus is on child safety. There will be child fingerprinting and a speaker for children about how to avoid being kidnapped. The North Port police and fire departments and the Sarasota Police Department canine unit will be there. The North Port Boy Scouts will help run game booths. Nathan Lee wants people to know all money generated from the Fun Day will go toward the Foundation, which is now under the umbrella of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice, to help improve the 911 system. "I want to make a positive from a negative," Lee said. "This is kind of my way of trying to honor Denise's legacy and trying to make sure that someone one else won't have to explain this to a loved one." Nathan also said the Fun Day is a way to thank the community for all the support shown to his family in the aftermath of Denise Lee's kidnapping and murder. "The support I've been shown is extremely encouraging, and so is traffic (the Foundation) Web site has gotten. And feedback from 911 dispatchers has been amazing," he said. "In the beginning, I had no idea how I was going to handle it (the tragedy). Everyone handles it in different ways. The only thing I can think of is knowing that Denise wouldn't want me to crawl up in a corner and isolate myself from reality and the world. The best thing to do is be positive. There's times when I'd want to crawl up in a corner and isolate myself, but Denise wouldn't want it." Singleton said the city of North Port and local businesses have been more than helpful in making the Fun Day a reality. "There are a lot of local businesses that will be there. I can't even name them all because they keep coming in," she said. "Right now there are about 50." Tickets for food and games will cost 50 cents apiece. Some vendors will give a percentage back to the Foundation, which will also have an information booth where people can buy T-shirts and learn more about the foundation's mission, and fundraisers, including an Oct. 18 golf tournament at Bobcat Trail. Anyone interested in volunteering or being a vendor can e-mail Jenn Singleton at jenn@deniseamberlee.org. E-mail: annek@sun-herald.com Copyright © 2008, Charlotte Sun |

Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool. I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss! - Cecil Lewis | |
