No. I suppose, if it was closer, I probably would. Maybe.

I've been with friends a couple of times (I don't have a membership), and while I appreciate the bulk pricing, I just didn't enjoy being around so much stuff. Kind of grossed me out, actually. BUY MORE, BUY BIGGER, YOU NEED MORE STUFF

I've never been.

Isn't it mostly bulk items? Without a family, that's not much use to me.

Without a family, that's not much use to me.

It is when you get twice as much for the same price on things that don't expire.

CD's, DVD's, and books are not in bulk, and are much cheaper than anywhere else.

Clothes are not in bulk.

True. I don't think the membership cost would be worth it in my case, though. I have a natural tendency to stockpile food (adopted from my mom, who will buy it "because it's on sale!!, not because we need it.) I don't want to encourage that tendency in myself. I don't have much space here. :P

Oh, hell yes.

Where elese can you find $300 worth of stuff you didn't know you needed when you went in?

Honestly, 3-4 books would probably cover the cost. You only have to go a couple times a year to save $50, and cover the cost of the membership.

It's wonderfully air-conditioned inside Costcos too of course. Good for days like today when the heat index is so high.

That means if I go I'll be able to stay and shop instead of giving up from fear of heat stroke!

The membership pays for itself with discount gasoline. We buy bulk paper goods, office supplies, good prices on booze, dry and canned foods, occasionally fresh meat or poultry. We just got back, though we only go inside about every 6 weeks or so.

Sorry, usually I love Costco, but I just finished working a ten day show there, and I'm all Costco'd out.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Better price on Gasoline. Great deals on tires and good guarantees/service. Outstanding for ordering computer equipment online. Good prices on cameras. Costco OPTICAL department has paid for our membership several times over. All five of us get our contacts there. You can't beat the fruit, and it's not all bulk. Our Costco is so well run that it's actually worth it for me to go there for a regular grocery run. Not everything is huge. You can buy a bag of chips, a loaf of bread etc. I go frequently for fruit and asparagus (addicted). My kids are nuts about their hummus. They have great salsa too, David goes through a lot of that. I like Pellegrino, so I buy it by the case at Costco. They often have wonderful cut flowers and live plants/trees. Yea Costco furniture department...we have bought several things, including two beds, an armoire and are considering buying some from their special order leather department when we can afford to replace the living room sofa. Yea Costco electronics. We've bought some nice rugs there. Linens...I adore their plain white super cheap, super fluffy "hotel" packages of towels. Yea for the supplement department too. Good prices on stuff we use from the pharmacy/cosmetics department as well. My nice pots and pans are from Costco. We would NEVER have been able to afford lawn furniture anywhere else. Got nice stuff with a table and umbrella. We buy stuff for the stores there and have considered using their travel services as well. Oh...we ordered wood blinds from them. Super prices and service, they look great. Such awesome guarantees. We've had an iPod fail, and a camera...took them back several months later with no receipt. They looked up the receipts from our card, and issued us a refund in full both times. Great prices on books! Yea yea yea!

Costco pharmacy is also very good -- about 1/10 the price of Walgreens or Walmart for one of my meds.

I've been thinking about this. What bothers me about Costco is that I feel depressed after being there. Depressed that I think I want/need so many things, depressed about seeing so many overweight/unphappy people shopping there, loading their carts with so much stuff.

Maybe your US Costcos are different, but I'll take shopping at smaller, independent, local stores any day.

Perhaps US Costcos are different than Canadian ones? We had a membership about 15 years ago. I think I went twice. It was a long drive to get there. There was just so much stuff there. Stuff I don't need. I'm the type who just wants to get in & out with the groceries. I appreciate small stores close by for that. I don't need to be distracted with other products. I don't drive much either.

Maybe, Sue.

I can't stand SAM's Club, but Costco is wonderful.

They treat their employees well.

Their store brand is top quality (usually no high fructose corn syrup, transfats, lots of organic).

As a rule, they don't sell junk, and it's the best price around.

They cater here to an upscale demographic.

Yes, there are overweight people looking to buy 1,000 raviolis for dinner, but that's the exception.

I generally look for small, independent stores, too. I'm the last person you'd expect to like a wholesale store, but I go twice a month.

i have memberships to both stores and frequent Sam's more often.

Costco's is worth the membership for their breads. I feed 7 fairly big people so buying in bulk and cooking is the way to go for me. We are on a budget from hell, so i rarely indulge in high end goods.

it behooves me to behold

The rotisserie chicken is a big yum. The kids will often request that we bring Costco chicken home for dinner if there is no time to cook. When I do that, I usually grab one of their ready to serve salads. They're meal sized for 2, so just about perfect side dish size for 5-6. I can just double the whole thing if we have extra people, and stick out the tub of hummus with some pretzels.

When I was doing breakfast for 20-25 every Sunday, Costco saved the day. They have the most awesome crudites platters on earth around the holidays. Perfect for parties. They always have the great asparagus, and those wonderful little baby red, orange, and yellow peppers. When our parties have stacked up, I can buy one of those things and divide it into two platters to take to other places, and still save the broccolli to cook for dinner (none of us like our broccoli raw).

It is absolutely the only place I'll buy ibuprofen. With two old people, an athlete, and a dancer living in the same house, we go through a lot of it.

I just wish the Kansas Costcos were allowed to sell wine. When we go in Houston, they have a really good wine department.

They have bottles that come with about 200!

That would last me the rest of my life. :lol2:
