HOLY CARP!!!
|
Wow!! I cannot believe how much fun I had with my grade 8s!!!! We went to Canada's Wonderland (Day 1) and Niagara Falls (evening of Day 1 and Day 2). I had such a blast!! I spent most of my time hanging out with a group of 3 of my boys who requested me as a group leader. I went on a bunch of roller coasters with them, and generally acted like a kid for both days. I don't have a lot of photos of me (for obvious reasons) but I can't remember the last time I laughed so much. And, as usual, the kids came away from it realizing that teachers are human beings, too, and were really amused by my childish antics. My uncontrollable giggling at the end of every roller coaster ride was especially enjoyed. The coolest part? The kids were allowed to roam (in pairs or groups)without chaperones at Canada's Wonderland, and yet three of my boys insisted on hanging out with me. Day 1 - Canada's Wonderland It was COLD!!!! I was wearing a t-shirt, turtleneck sweater, zippered sweater with hood, and my teaching partner's jacket for most of the day. Brrr! This is me with my boys waiting to go into the Sponge Bob 4D (3D movie with moving seats) theatre. ![]() Just before we left Wonderland - the obligatory group shot ![]() Day 1 - Niagara Falls From about 10pm to midnight, we roamed Clifton Hill. A big group of us went to "Nightmares" - a haunted house. I went in with a group of 6, and was literally dragging two of my male students through it, with the rest of the kids packed tightly behind us. We chickened out part way through, and I got a little card proclaiming me to be the 90,511th person to Chicken Out. ![]() Day 2 - Niagara Falls We went to Bird Kingdom which was REALLY cool. This is me holding a flying fox (a bat). I wanted to take him home - he was adorable! ![]() I can't believe how well behaved the kids were, and what a good time I had hanging out with them!!

Wow, that's quite a trip to take in grade school! The most we ever got was a day trip to NYC. We didn't even do overnight trips in high school. Sounds like a blast, dol! |

Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool. I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss! - Cecil Lewis

Death is simply a shedding of the physical body like the butterfly shedding its cocoon. It is a transition to a higher state of consciousness where you continue to perceive, to understand, to laugh, and to be able to grow. - Dr. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

Tee hee - the kids thought the shirt was funny. I think it went well with the hat I ended up wearing most of the day (the black one worn by the kid beside me in the first photo). If the kids didn't think I was a complete dork before this trip, they certainly know it now! |
