Assuming one thought it worth 650k to buy a piano played and signed by Chopin, how would you ever become comfortable that it was legit?
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Provenance would inded be tricky here. Were that to be solid, why would it be on Ebay instead of at Christie's?

how do i know that its not signed by filbert chopin, the noted romanian entomologist and amatuer gynecologist, and second cousin to the great fred, not well known for his piano playing. in fact, he didnt play at all.

I visited the Pleyel factory a few years ago. The showed me hundreds of old ledgers, hand written, with bills of sale, serial numbers, name of customer. Including one of Chopen, and one of George Sand, for a rebuilding of a Pleyel.
Even though closed, I'm sure the books are still available for research. My guess is that after closing they moved the archive to the Salon de Pleyel in Paris.

6 3/4 octaves doesn't sound like enough but I don't play much Chopin.

I think he played that during is oft-forgotten tour of English pubs. It's a little known fact that his second Ballade is actually little more than a re-working of 'Roll out the Barrel' with the music turned upside down and lots of twiddly bits added.

He struggled to cope with the English nightlife. George Sands had to carry him home to their seaside Bed and Breakfast establishment on more than one occasion.

That typist, Eigeldinger, wrote a book on Chopin.

My piano teacher, Theodor Balan, wrote a book on Chopin too. In fact he wrote many books. I remember meeting him one summer on the shore of the Black Sea - he was carrying a portable typewriter. In his free time he was painting. His house was like a museum. And he had only three concert grands. And a disgusting dog. In his opinion, the dog played much better than me.

Did I tell you that Romania was the biggest cemetery of historical pianos in Europe. And one can find a mid 19th century Pleyel too. My friend did and restored it: Calin Tantareanu - Pleyel
