It will no doubt be on a little later where you are. It is at the beginning of the second half hour. Has the originator of hypermiling. They are having a Chicago-New York competition - get there on one tank of gas.

Where's the challenge?

A tank of gas in my standard Volkswagen Passat without any hypermiling driving takes me about 800 miles, which, according to google maps, is already more than Chicago-New York.

Thanks Mik.

I'm glad that the little people are finally getting a clue about what your own vastly-superior Kenny has championed all along. :croc:

Neener Neener.

Oh, and how far anyone goes on a tank of gas is meaningless.
Tanks can be small or large.

This is a very common booboo people make when talking about their mileage.

I've gone 741 miles on a tank, after which I only needed 10.3 gallons to fill up.

43 MPG? Wowzers!

Witness the power of this fully armed and operational battle station modern Diesel technology

My last tank was about 45 MPG. If I use my beloved Autobahn then it drops to 30-35MPG, but what the hell

Kenny did you see my thread? After a full tank of hypermiling, I only went from 23.4 to 26.1! :puke:

What would you have done differently that I did? Maybe you could get it to 27...and we both might be able to hit 30 if on the highway the whole time (I did about 30% of the driving on side roads).

I'm skeptical.

You'll be brainwashed soon, since many car companies have big plans for Diesel in the US and they'll advertise like hell :P

WAI!

I remember a local woman I met through one of the Hybrid Fora I frequent.
She had the same car as I.

She was getting low 30s and swore she used all of the hypermiling tricks and the car was defective.
The dealers said nothing was wrong.

Finally she asked me if I'd drive her car.
I did and got 62 MPG driving my usual usual daily commute - plus she was in the car and she weighed much more than Jose. :leaving:

She was astonished.
She couldn't believe her eyes.

All I can say is I do everything I have written but must just to it to a greater degree.

Dude, you just suck! :lol2:

I just checked her record on the hybrid forum.

After her Kenny lesson she had a few tanks in the 50s, and since then her tanks have settled to the upper 40s.

Her first tank was in the mid 20s. :puke:

Well you are using a modern day hybrid car, with all the bells and whistles. I still have to start my engine by cranking it from the front!

Seriously though, my car is much older than you are thinking...it feels soooo "analog" after I drive a friend's modern Acura TSX or Mazda 3 with the "digital" feel. In fact, in his normal TSX (really nice car, btw) he gets like 35 MPG without trying and I get 26 WITH trying!

I would put quite a bit of money that no one could get it more than 30 MPG with the driving routes I took during my hypermiling experiment.

This discussing is making me want to get a new car. :P

I love my current one, it has great zip, I know every inch of it, and there are no car payments. But I just have that urge to get a new (rather, used) car made at least in the 21st century!

You're on. If I can get my Dodge Caravan to 25MPG overall with an even split between highway and city (and needing a tuneup right now), I can get your car over 30MPG.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

That's one tank of gas for every competitor in the competition, plus all of the fuel costs for getting your vehicle there. That's an awful lot of wasted gas for a competition for those people that are trying to save gasoline. It's like driving three miles out of your way to gain an extra 1MPG in efficiency.

You don't need a hybrid to get killer mileage.
Remember, I squeeze the best MPG out of my hybrid by trying to avoid using the hybrid system.

Here's a new Toyota
MPG: 29/35
$11,350

My car's EPA is now 40 and I get 64 (IOW hypermiling gives me 60% better than EPA)
That means this Yaris may be hypermiled up to 51.2 MPG.
And at $11,350 the payments would be small.

Or if you like your head and want more room look at the Honda Fit with standard side-curtain airbags.

Nah - I'm looking towards the Ford Fusion, Acura TSX, or Mazda RX-8...something along those lines (a year or two old/used of course). I love driving and want to be excited when I get in my car each time...those smaller Toyota or Fit cars don't do it for me. Although the Mini-Cooper seems like it would be very fun to drive!
