HOLY CARP!!!
|
So this guy starts raping his daughter when she is 11. A few weeks before her 18th birthday he drugs her, handcuffs her and locks her in a secret concealed soundproof dungeon he has built in his basement behind a heavy electronically controlled door. He forces her to write letters to him and his wife saying she’d run away and don’t look for her. Over 24 years he fathers 7 children with her - all in that basement prison. One newborn died and he cooked it in his oven. Their grandmother and the man who is both their father and grandfather raise three of the other children upstairs. He forces his daughter to write letters saying she can’t take care of them so is leaving the infants at their doorstep. The other three children are raised in the dungeon and have never seen daylight till this month. The oldest child is 19; the mother is now 42. This all unravels when one of the three imprisoned children gets ill and the mother convinces the father to take her to the hospital, but conceals an SOS letter on the child. The hospital contacts police to try to find the child’s mother to get more info on her condition. The mother convinces the monster to let them go to the hospital, where it all unravels. Astonishing. You couldn’t make this stuff up! This really hits me in the gut because my own father fathered a child with my sister when she was 16. She ran away and gave the baby up for adoption. http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/04/29...llar/index.html |

Kenny, This man is a very sick person. He'd only get about 15 years in prison, although I'm sure the other inmates will make it seem a lot longer. That is, if they don't lynch him first. I heard the girl that went to the hospital is in a coma. I hope she pulls through. I can't begin to imagine the psychological problems these kids and their mom must have. How could his wife not know something was going on? I bet she must feel really guilty after learning this took place right under her nose. It just boggles the mind how and why a guy could do this to his own daughter.

I've been grown a long time, thank you very much. There's a reason for the comment, and it dovetails with what I've talked about in various threads over the past few weeks. From today's news about 32 of the 51 teenagers from the compound in Texas either being pregnant or already mothers, to our current discussion on abstinence, or this story that hit the wires yesterday, all of these stories are about human sexuality, and what is considered desired behavior, and what is not. We can see a thread such as this, and I think most of us can agree that this is beyond the pale. But on what grounds do we base these opinions? Is incest inherently wrong? Why? Or homosexuality? Or maybe polygamy? Is sex before marriage wrong? Should a 15-year old girl be considered as being ready for consensual sex? What should be the age of majority? Are there any hard and fast rules on what is wrong, and what is right? And if there are, who should make them? |

So my liking my friend, Jane, is along the lines of this pedophile in Austria? It seems like my inherent being is being compared to what Fritzl did to his daughter. |

Interesting questions, Jolly, but I don't think they are quite relevant when the father locked up his child. These things can be questioned when the two people involved are involved of their own free will, like the Australian couple (father/daughter) a few weeks ago, or the German couple (brother/sister). But this is different on so many levels. |

Jolly I saw what looked to me to be a mean spirited poke at Kenny who opened up to us. As for the other stuff...we've debated that. It is insulting (to me) to see gay/lesbians being compared to the likes of Mr. Austria. I happen to have some very dear friends who are same-sex couples. What you imply is that homosexuality is akin to incest, polygamy, and sex with minors...and that couldn't be further from the truth. i do not expect you to see things my way. I was just pointing out remark to Kenny...yeah right you wanted to spark discussion with that. It was a low blow. |

It's wrong when it hurts someone, Jolly. And you cannot tell me that you don't think it hurts a 16 year old girl, in many many ways, when her father forces himself on her. Or an 18 year old girl locked in a cellar. It doesn't need debating. Young girls who have not been given any choice, who live in a closed off community and are made to become subservient baby machines are being hurt. Sex before marriage, and homosexual sex , between two like-minded people who both are in agreement about what is going on, is simply not on the same page. |

I fully agree. These implicit comparisons between homosexuals and rape and similar crimes that are repeatedly made by some members here are quite offending. |

Then, by your definition, incest (as long as both consenting partners were over 18) would also be an allowed sexual practice? |

Sorry if you're offended, but my questions have merit. I didn't point out homosexuality, it was on my laundry list of things sexual. So why is that what you've decided to hone in on? Is it because homosexuality has become a topic beyond the pale? By what definition? There are many other actions between two people in my post. The basic question is why do we condone some sex acts, and not others? |

sigh Kenny, I'm very sorry to hear about what your father did to your sister. As to the story, we have plenty of sick monsters in our own country we need to be doing something about. What is it about sex? Why did this guy have to lock up his own daughter for sex? Why was Denise murdered for sex? This has nothing to do with homosexuality. These men are straight. They are selfish, narcissistic psychopaths. |

Homosexuality is more relevant than, say, polygamy, because there is a quite significant number of people who want to have homosexual relations in our societies. I for one would be in favor of legalizing any consensual relationship between adults. But that's not my point. The point is that variants of consensual relationships between adults are a totally different issue than rape and pedophilia because the latter are not consensual. To lump them together is highly offensive. |

Are you trying to say that acceptance of sexual behavior in society is dependent upon the numbers of practitioners of a certain type of sexual act? |

I guess I've made some comments like that in the past, so I'll just say..... I never meant to compare any of those as if they are the same thing, and I'm sorry if I came across as trying to do that. They are obviously different things. I haven't even suggested that such things like incest and polygamy should even be legal in the first place, because I don't think they should -- I've just tried to understand why certain "rights" and reasons are being taken for granted in one situation but they are not even being allowed for discussion in another situation. If the #1 reason for gay marriage is because it's a mutual relationship between people who naturally feel a love / attraction to each other, then that same reason should naturally also apply to an incestual or polygamous couple/trio/etc. Of course it's not the only reason, so since there are other reasons that go against incest and polygamy, then just that one argument alone isn't enough to support them. But the problem is, that reason often isn't even acknowledged, even while it is raised on a pedestal as the only truly necessary argument for gay marriage. So I was never suggesting that homosexuality is the same as incest -- just pointing out one similarity, and wondering why people are so offended by that similarity, which is a purely ideological similarity that should have nothing to do with the differences between the two kinds of relationships. Sorry if my posts weren't so clear, and caused any offense. I never meant for anything I write to cause offense. |
