HOLY CARP!!!
|
I haven't found airport security to be so frustrating, but maybe it's because I don't fly very frequently. So what if I have to take off my shoes and belt? So what if I have to think twice about what I'm carrying on the plane with me? So what if I have to take an extra 2 minutes for them to search my bag? So what if I have to wait in a line? Doesn't bother me at all.

Correct. |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Well, what do you expect when there are terrorists trying to kill us? This isn't exactly "guilty until proven innocent", because they don't take you and throw you in prison as a convicted terrorist, simply because your name is on a list. The people who are unfortunately mixed up in this aren't necessarily considered 100% innocent, either, but they certainly aren't considered 100% guilty -- it's more complicated than that, as it should be in such a situation. When there are people trying to kill you, you don't just assume that everyone is perfectly innocent without extensive trials. You don't throw everyone in prison, either, but you certainly do take precautions. |

This whole thing is nothing but a problematic government response to a problem caused by the government in the first place. Oh! We screwed up! Well, we only need to take away more of your constitutional rights to fix it! Trust us for we are you! F-That! Our government ceased "being us" in 1913. |

Why are people so uptight about taking off their shoes at the airport? What's the problem with the security doing random 2-minute inspections of bags? Why is it so stressful, if you haven't got anything to hide? People are way too selfish about so-called "privacy". Look, it's not your airplane, you aren't the pilot, you aren't the flight attendants, you aren't the air traffic controller, you aren't the scheduler/coordinator, you aren't anything having anything to do with anything that allows you to get from place A to place B very, very, very quickly (compared to, say, driving 500 or 1000 miles). Yes, you're paying lots of money for the ride... and all those people in the airlines business are doing you a huge favor by completing their half of the bargain, and giving you the ride. People are way too selfish. |

Yes, thank you for doing what I paid you to do and occasionally giving me a hard time about it. Thank you very much. Honestly I don't mind the security hoops you have to jump through if the TSA people aren't such jerks about it. Half the time they are in my experience. |

I'm a 20-something male who wears a t-shirt and jeans, is alone on most flights and doesn't fly nearly enough to have the routine down to automation. Prob'ly a red flag or two in there somewhere.

Remeber, Aqua, working those checkpoints has to be as gratifying as working customer service. Standing there all day having people yell and complain at you just because they have to take their shoes and belts off, and they didn't get to the airport as early as they should, and are indanger of missing their plane. I imagine you'd get a little surly, too. |
| The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it. | |

HOLY CARP!!!

Turn it around: "Thank you for paying me to do what I offered to do for you." We take it for granted that we can just hop in our cars, drive to the airport, and fly wherever we want whenever we want. We take it for granted, as if it is our royal right to simply lay down the money and say, "There! I payed you! Now do as I say, because I own you now!" They don't have to accept our money; they don't have to do what we want them to do; of course they'd go out of business if they don't (they almost go out of business *doing* it!), but that doesn't change the fact that the deal is 2-sided. And it doesn't change the notion that paying for your ticket and allowing security to search you and your bags is a very small price to pay for being able to fly from New York to California in 3 or 4 hours. |

Say what you want, but that doesn't give them the right to be dicks about it. And that's all I'm addressing here, when I get some attitude from a TSA employee that's high on authority. If they're cool, I'm cool. Oh, and Quirt:
In my opinion I do a decent job of covering that up when I'm out in public.

My cousin does this sort of thing. He says that aside from the IRS, TSA employees are the most hated. That sort of negativity has got to make anybody grumpy. Then they get grumpy, and in turn it makes me grumpy. Vicious cycle, grumpiness. |

Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool. I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss! - Cecil Lewis

Dentists have the highest suicide rate, though. And, apparently, they don't play the piano much ... I haven't seen a dentist here yet. |

I fly fairly regularly, though certainly not as often as some here. I dutifully take off my belt, shoes, etc, and pack all of my toiletries in a ziplock bag if I want to go with carry-on. My problem isn't with rights or inconvenience. My problem is that I think the security measures are reactionary, and I don't think they do a whole lot to improve safety on planes. For every security measure they make, wack-jobs are going to find a way around it. But 'dems da rules, so I play by them, and I try to be nice to the people who spend their day dealing with those who aren't so nice about it. |
