HOLY CARP!!!
Well if a person is going to have an SUV a hybrid one is better than a regular one.

There are different ways of looking at it.

That said some hybrid SUVs are not real hybrids.
They are scam fake "hybrid" SUVs where the maker does not install regenerative braking and an electric motor, just other cheap minor modifications so they can SCREAM GREEN.

They got a lot of crap for it and are planing real hybrid SUVs with Toyota's system for 2009.

The Ford Escape hybrid is an example of a legit SUV.

Ax do you drive your hybrid the same way you drove your last car?
Has the instant feedback from the MPG readout caused you to alter your driving style?
Do you resist or give into the temptation to get better MPG today than you got yesterday on your commute?

Ever get tailgated?

I see plenty of hybrids driven 80 MPH on the freeway and accelerating heavily around the city.
So we aren't all loonies!

I found that I get better fuel efficiency when driving on hilly country roads than on highways and roads in towns/urban areas.

There are certainly times when I consciously try to adjust based on the instantaneous fuel efficiency read out, but I don't think I ever go overboard with it -- I just don't have the urge for it.

Funny thing is, I tend to get better fuel efficiency when I am not consciously aware of the fact that I'm driving a hybrid (i.e., not paying any attention to the instantaneous fuel efficiency read out, not adjusting for it). It's very zen... it just woks out best when I think about it least.
