Two issues that needs a little discussion with this is the question of marriage and exact amongst teenagers. Most of the stats we look at for the overall pregancy rates amongst teenagers are provided by Guttmacher. They set the numbers from 15-19 years of age. I think we can all agree that 19 is a heck of alot different from 15-16. I wonder what the rates would be like if you took out 18-19 year olds, as they are technically and legally adults?

The other question is one of marriage. It was quite common prior to the 70's for young ladies to be married at 15-16 and older. If you take out the married teenagers from the list, the pregnancy rates were much lower for teens in the 70's and 60's, and earlier, prior to sex ed. How does this factor into the debate?
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Oh gosh. Would they have to sport a big "L" for a year, then an "N" for another two? Hey, maybe that's not such a bad idea, might cool their jets just a tad.

Would they wear letter jackets? Sounds more like "advertising"!

Over the past 25 (or 35) years, were parents able to opt their children out of sex ed?

How many of them did so?

Perhaps its the parents' reluctance to let their kids participate in sex ed that leads to what ivorythumper deems a failure of the last 25 (or 35) years of sex ed.

What percentage of parents do you think really had their children opt out, Ax?

I don't know, that's what I was hoping to find out (so far unsuccessfully).
Might you know the statistics?

No, I don't. It was your surmisal. I would expect the number to be minuscule and that parents having their children opt out of sex ed has no bearing on the failure rate of sex ed.
