HOLY CARP!!!

I bought a huge bag of pinto beans. I'm gonna cook em myself instead of buying them in cans. Anyone make refried beans? One reason I'm doing this is I want to use a healthier fat than lard. I'm gonna try olive oil. Anyone do this? or am I nuts? Can you freeze em? |

I found this healthier version recipe for you, Kenny. http://www.cooking-mexican-recipes.com/pin...an_recipes.html Refried beans has to be one of the most unappetizing looking foods I've ever seen. I guess you have to dress them up a bit with chopped tomatoes or such. |

How big?
Sounds cheaper
I'm sure someone does, but I have not.
Lard sounds unhealthy, doesn't it?
Don't tell Popeye!
I've never tried olive oyl.
Yes, but that has nothing to do with beans.
You can probably freeze anything. Whether it's edible or not is a different question. |

Thanks. Lots of good tips there. We use em on tostados to stretch the meat. You don't even see the beans under all the lettuce, tomatoes and shredded cheese. Beans are a good source protein and I think they result in a smaller carbon footprint than beef for the same amount of protein. |

But if you produce more methane with beans than meat they might be worse for the environment. You can never tell. The beef cows will still be there whether *you* eat them or not. So I don't know how you can accurately measure these things. But regardless, I think it is |
