The Musical Bug; Cello?

HOLY CARP!!!
I've been feeling the music bug lately. It's been a couple of years since I sat down at a piano. And part of me wants to go back. However, it'll be some time before I can have a piano. And part of me wants to start something completely new, that I've never picked up before. That rules out all manner of clarinets, oboe, and sax. I've never been interested in the flute, or brass.

Cello, perhaps? I adore the instrument, and it (IMO) is a better instrument for solo playing than violin.

The problem - strings scare me. I pick up woodwinds easily. But several people tried to teach me guitar (never seriously) with no luck. On the other hand, a challenge might be a good thing.

Maybe it's a whim that will pass, but I think eventually I'll give in and start playing SOMETHING again. Why not cello?

MS - any words of advice? Am I nuts?

The cello is my second favorite instrument (besides the piano) and I played it for a year when I was younger. It's definitely an instrument you can learn and not as imposing a string instrument as others...

I say go for it!

Yeah, go for the cello if you love it. It's a lot of work but very fun.

I'm basically starting over from scratch, I've had such a long break. So let me know if you start too.

Cello -- an instrument between your legs, capable of pleasing thousands when scratched.

Go for it! :thumb:

Because it's expensive and difficult to find a good one, because you need to find a good teacher and that might not be easy to do, and because it's a difficult instrument to learn to play well.

Or not.
Or not.
Or not.

I want to learn to play the piano. I'm not getting a piano anytime very soon either. I think guitar is an interesting and practical second choice personally.

But I'm sure you would do well with whatever you chose! Really, I think you would.

Disclaimer: I played the violin for two years and I sucked.
