Thanks MMs!! :)

They should be arriving in the morning, i can't wait!

And LE has it spot on. People spend $4000 on fancy TVs and computers and watches yet people always get bitchy when girls buy expensive fashion items. I worked hard for it and i'll get much (MUCH hehe) pleasure out of it so why does the price have to be an issue? I don't see the point at all in spending 3or400 pound on 10 pairs of average shoes that i'll wear a few times and get board of when i can buy one pair of stunning shoes that will become part of my soul and i will treasure for the rest of my life.

I'd rather have a wardrobe of a few wonderous treasures than a wardrobe of sh!t loads of crap

x

Uh, Princess?

Shoes get scuffed, and the soles wear out. Sometimes they are fixable. Mostly, not back to original condition.

I know of very few people who have shoes they've had their entire adult lives.

Unless they have lots and lots and lots of shoes.

Not that I have anything against your purchase. I have a few extravagant items myself. If you can afford it, and it isn't hurting you or anyone else, fabulous. Just go into the shoe experience with your eyes wide open.

(And now I will wait for Dol to tear me a new one.)

Quirt, it is soo obvious you are a man. :P

These are not just 'shoes'.

You don't LET them get scuffed or damaged.

And if by some ungodly horror they do, you take them to a Louboutin recommended cobbler and get them fixed.

This sounds like my great-aunt, who kept plastic covers on her sofa every day of her life because she didn't want the sofa to get ruined. Of course, the sofa was uncomfortable as hell and looked hideous every day because of the stupid plastic covers, but you couldn't tell her that.

When you get married, do you plan to use the wedding china, or lock it up in a cabinet for mythical special occasions? <_<

I'll wear the shoes all the time.

I just wont be walking through puddles or grassy fields. It's not hard to look after a pair of well made shoes.

I want to quote that right now, and I want to ask you about that when you're 30. You won't BELIEVE you said it.

By the time you're 30, Loubs will be three to five fashion trends ago, and you'll be on to something new.

don't hate me, Quirt, but I am old and have shoes that I've had since I was in my 20's that look brand new because I take good care of them. I don't wear them in lousy weather, in fact, I rarely wear them outside at all. Stop smirking :-) I wear them to sing, so I very often change into them in the dressing room when I change into my gown. I have several gorgeous classic expensive pairs of shoes that I have stuffed with tissue and protected from weather/temp extremes and dust over the years, conditioning the leather, and just generally treating them well. It's worth it for me. My feet are a challenge to fit and I'm picky about how my feet feel/look when I'm singing. (I'm VAIN...as all get out!) So I do have maybe 8 or 10 pair of shoes tht I've had that long and which I continue wear, will continue to wear, and fully expect that they will outlive my ability to carry them off. Dammit.

I think it's crazy to spend 4k on televisions, too.

The point is that, in general, one should not blow one's money on frivolous crap. Some people consider shoes to be frivolous crap. I think they have a point but hey, it's not my money.

FWIW, I habitually shop at Goodwill. :P

Buy them and then go walk on water. Well, not exactly. From the photo, the soles and heels appears to be made out of cork. Cork's low density makes it a suitable material for fishing floats and buoys. That's the upside of cork. The downside is that those high high heels may cause you podiatric problems in the future.

I'm puzzled. I've always thought that shoes, like all fashion items, become dated and are not worth spending huge amounts of money on because you'd only wear them for a year or two. But I am quite intrigued now, reading what Deb said...are there shoe styles that really are 'classics' and worth investing in? Seems to me the rounded toe, the squared toe, the pointed toe, are constantly changing and make a shoe look dated. No?

Seriously, Deb, that's the key point.

I wear expensive British dress shoes. I can easily go through a pair every six months. I've had them resoled ... I even mail them to the only shoe repair place in the country that is recommended by the manufacturer ... and they never feel the same.

Quirt - try Allen Edmonds. I have several pair. My first was a pair of nice black wingtips I have been wearing extensively since 1994. I've had them resoled three times, and they still look like new. Comfortable too. About $300 and worth every penny.

I've tried 'em, they don't fit.

I have hard-to-fit feet. Among dress shoes, only stodgy old Church's work.

Look around the streets of NY on any day, and you'll see how women keep their nice shoes nice. You'll see hundreds of well-dressed women hurrying to work wearing trainers and carrying their good shoes in a bag. If you look at the shape of our dress shoes, it will be even more obvious why we don't wear the soles off them too often.
