I ran across this video and it made me wonder what people think about wearing fur.

Then we'd better get serious about leather shoes, meat and all that stuff. I
understand we do not HAVE to wear fur, and I am against any sort of unnecessary cruelty in raising any sort of livestock. I buy kosher meats when I can on that basis.

I doubt it is much of an issue in Hawaii, but fur is one of the very finest ways to stay warm and dry.

I would never wear it, but I'm not really 'against' it. I suppose if I was, I would have to get rid of my leather wallet.

If I had a problem with fur, then I'd have to stop wearing leather and eating meat.

After my uncle's death this month, I was given my grandmother's mink stole. It's kind of creepy - it's a link of 6 (I think) minks with fake eyes, but real claws still intact. I have no intention of wearing it, but I have no shame in possessing it.
And how are you today?

My dad put the stole around my neck and I almost freaked out. *shudder*

It was one of her most prized and expensive possessions, and I want to keep it in the family, but....it's just so.....well, creepy really is the best word.

Who knows, maybe in winter I'll wear it. Or not.

I'm not quite sure why one would leave the heads on. Seems to me to have that 'Conan The Barbarian' look.

My grandmas only had one head which was a part of the fastener at the front. I think the head was supposed to look as though it was biting the feet, or maybe curled up around the person sleeping.

The claws sound positively scratchy!

I have no problem with people who wear fur.

I eat animals, yet I have two for pets and one as my boyfriend.

What do you expect, consistency?

Maybe one day you could have it remade into something slightly different? Minus the eyes and claws. ^_^
I can imagine a collar on a really good, classic wool coat, or something like that. I would do that, and would have no problem wearing a piece of inherited fur from my grandmother.

While I wouldn't go out and buy a new fur to wear, I think it's good to keep, and get more use out of, existing fur coats, etc. Better they should get more usage, than dumped in the trash.

No surprise, I guess, that I don't eat animals, and am against real fur.

I realize, though, that animal products are ubiquitous, so my goal is use less rather than think I can completely avoid them. I have leather shoes, but when I can choose shoes made from something else, I do. I buy cosemtics w/out animal ingredients when I can.

I've run a trap line, killed what I caught, and skinned it out. I know the difference betwen green rolled and stick-stretched.

It's money. Hard money, but sometimes you do what you need to. Price has been down, lately, although a good bobcat or otter still does pretty good...

Fascinating you say this now LW,
I just inherited 3 furs from mom - including grandma's old stole - a stone martin (did I get the critter right?) - But it's 4 full bodied critters sewn nestled together (sort of an orgy arrangement) - heads, beady eyes, paws, claws, tails, tummies, the whole shebang. We've been having fun with it putting it on the back of bedroom & bathroom doors at night, trying to scare each other with it. Our cats are extremely spooked. And ha! - I think that a good thing. If I find my camera I'll post pics - hilarious. :D

We've nothing against fur up here - it's quite common.

BTW, I don't think PETA is crazy and I had a nightmare after watching that video. At least the animals could be killed in humane way.

A couple of years ago, my grandma gave me her real fox fur coat that she had when she was in her 20's. The skin on the right sleeve was a little torn but i got it fixed and now it's perfect.

I've yet to have the chance to wear it because it's not really the kind of thing you can wear in north east england ( ) however, do you think i could pull it off in Paris?
