1960's CIA Plot to Kill Castro Nears Success

by Scott Ott

(2008-03-07) — A top-secret plan by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), hatched in the 1960’s, to assassinate Cuban dictator Fidel Castro is said to be “closing in on success”, according to an unnamed source in Langley, Virginia.

The news comes on a day when President George Bush said the Cuban government must change before U.S. policy toward it would.

The unnamed, now-retired CIA agent, in revealing the 48-year plot, said, “We had to do it in a way that wouldn’t look like a state-sponsored hit job.”

“One day we’re brainstorming,” the source said, “and it comes to us…like pow! What if Castro appeared to die of natural causes due to old age?”

The source said “the beauty of the plan” was that it would free Cubans from tyranny while giving “plausible deniability” to Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush.”

LOL!!! They need to figure out how to do the same for Raul. It should be a little quicker this time around though.

Patience is a wonderful thing, no? We are blessed that our government had the strength of will to see this decades-long plan come to fruition. :silly:

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead

Raul has been second banana for a very long time. My guess is he will want to make his own mark after his brother dies. The only real way to do that is to open it up.

Exactly! And to think the anti-war crowd is questioning whether McCain is fit to lead for daring to contemplate a 100-year war in Iraq? How shallow! If the man has patience to wait this long to become President, the man has patience to fight a 100-year war.

He was not talking about a 100 year war in Iraq. He said we may have troops stationed there 100 years. we have had troops in Germany for over 60 years and you could hardly say there has been a war in Germany for that period.

I'm no Cuba expert, but from what Cubans have told me (those who live there now), Raul has been the one that wielded the real power all these years as head of the military. He is the one who has terrorized the citizens, but he stayed behind the scenes whereas Fidel was more the international public figurehead. Raul is just as revered/feared. They don't think anything is going to change at all.

No disagreement there, man. Just highlighting how certain parties have twisted what McCain really said. It was fresh on my mind as I recently heard an acquaintance interpreted McCain's statement as one contemplating a 100-year war. I have nothing against McCain, and, at this point, I think I can be just as happy if McCain is elected President instead of Clinton or Obama.
