I think it's the other way around, Kenny. People are sometimes blinded into loyalty, but loyalty is a fine attribute, not at all universally blind. I'd like to see the word, and the concept behind it, viewed as a separate concept than the sort of pied piper thing you're talking about. Blind loyalty is not really the same thing as noble loyalty through thick and thin. It's not the loyalty that is at fault, but an individual's motives in expressing that loyalty.

True relationship loyalty is a very open-eyed integrity; an I love you warts and all kind of devotion.

Clear-eyed loyalty is beautiful. Blind loyalty is self-deception.

Very good point, Diva.

"Clear-eyed loyalty" includes not letting the person with whom your loyalty lies do stupid things and telling him he's wrong when he's wrong. It's "blind loyalty" that falls into the destructive "gang mentality" of which kenny spoke.

Everyone???? Seems to me that most people just didn't say anything. And you take that to mean that *everyone* agrees with your opinion on it?

I've got news for you. "Everyone" doesn't see it that way. And you'd best figure that one out.

I had resolved not to post in this thread until I came across this exchange. I have to add my voice to "everybody" to affirm that I believe Larry is wrong. I wouldn't want to be considered a "silent moderate Muslim" in this blow-up.

I also affirm my full support for apple in her moderating decisions.

Larry, you will probably say that I'm just another person that doesn't like you. It is true that I don't like you, but I try to be fair nonetheless in my judgments and you are wrong, wrong, wrong in what you are doing here.

This is not an answer and you know it. I can sya the same about the apparent sock puppet posts. It is very easy to differentiate between "CrashTest" and "Crash Test" so don't read anything from the obvious imitation.

And to answer CrashTests original complaint - poor little boy, is someone writing bad things about you. Why don't you run back to mama and hide. Ooooh Larry's been banned at other forums, and now he's picking on me. Please help me I can't take it. Ban him. Ban him. Pretty please so I can get back to printing my threads full of verbal diahrea.

I truly have no horse in this race. I love Larry to pieces, that's true and there is nothing he could do to negate that, any more than any of the rest of you could. In fact, I love all of you that way, even the ones whose personalities I'm not attracted to. But make no mistake, I see the warts on everyone I love quite clearly. As it happens, I am just as attracted to Thiago's quirky bizarreness, so I have a great reason NOT to pick a side in this argument. My main frustration is that two people I enjoy are at such odds with each other. And no, I DO NOT think it's more one guy's fault than the other. That would be keeping two lists, certainly. If you've 'known' me for a while and can really get your head to accept that I'm the sort of person who attaches blind allegiance to anything or anybody, your connection with reality is pretty tenuous, I would suggest you get a grip. (not saying anyone has accused me in particular, just clarifying that is not the case, especially given my considered opinion that this thing is no more about one person's problem activity than the other's)

Speaking in general terms, not about this particular situation but life in general, I think that any time there is an big dust up, it's a duet of wrongness. One provokes, the other reacts. The provocateur can be agressive or passive, it doesn't mitigate the provocation. The more insidious passive attacks are really designed in a way I find particularly objectionable, but that's my own battle. The provocateur makes a choice to provoke or not (again...the passives like to do the "who me" thing, all the while knowing exactly which buttons they're intentionally pushing, but it's the same thing as a "YOU )(*&^&^%&") The reactors have a choice...to react or pass it up. When both parties make the wrong choice, war breaks out.

Off to the high school. You guys...all of you whom I adore with the last ounce of my being, HAVE THIS ISSUE RESOLVED BEFORE I GET BACK. I am a teacher and a mother. I know how to make you pay!

1hp,

While I personally agree with jgoo in principal ("just ignore the stuff you can't stand", note that even though I expressed my disapproval of what the "Crash Test" sockpuppet has been created to do, I have never called for the "Crash Test" sockpuppet to be banned), I also believe that you have a legitimate question to raise on what sort of forum rules and moderation mechanisms should (or should not) be put in place to deal with the "nasty sockpuppet" problem.

This particular thread is very specific to "Larry" and very specific to this "fake Crash Test" incident. So I'll let this thread focus on this specific "fake Crash Test" incident.

I'd much prefer to address the "nasty sockpuppet" issue in more general terms. So, time permitting, I might start a new thread to address the "sockpuppet and forum rule/moderation" issues later.

I support apple in her moderating duties as well.

Until recently I confess to have egged Crash on by providing him with deliberately bad advice about his foilbles and amourous misadventures. I recall one instance in September that my bad advice drove a few people apoplectic. Whatever. I don't care. The point is Crash wanted attention and I obliged him.

However 10 days ago I received a PM from him. Believing that he genuinely wanted to engage my thoughts on his behavior patterns in this forum I answered sincerely. I naively thought he was reaching out. After a couple of PM's it became apparent he had no intention of reaching out but rather was intent on making a mockery of the message was sincerely trying to convey.

Crash has now joined another person for whom have no respect on my blocked list. Both are habitual attention getters and manipulators.

Yes, he did the same to me, claiming that he believed we had some "issues" to solve. I answered sincerely, explaining why I didn't like him and giving several varied and clear answers. From his second post it was evident that he had no intention of being sincere. From this short exchange he garnered the illusion that he had "put me in my place".

I don't have anyone on my blocked list, and I don't even really dislike anyone here, not even people who openly dislike me or attack me.

I am not the type to hold a grudge - I have often been very good friends with people who had not gotten along with me previously after things have been cleared up.

Having said that - I'm not a wimp or dunce. I think Larry and company thought I'd be an easy target, but instead they ended up dirtying their own shoes in the mud.

A good percentage of the fights in these threads were not even directed at me, but numerous mini-battles happened between people who normally fight anyway - so there is an underlining tone of contradiction and conflict on the forum that has nothing to do with me or just one person specifically.

Crash and I also exchaned a few PMs a while back.
I also felt it got personal and important.
I took it seriously and really felt I was helping.
In time I also figured out that I was being played.
I also put Crash on my block list.

Still, overall I like him.
I forgive him and put it into perspective because I don't take myself so seriously.
He's learning when you do X, Y happens.
No skin off my back really.

I support his right to post whatever he wants to post here on TNCR.
If you don't like what he posts ignore him.

If this vocal lynch mob gets their way who will they turn on next to purify TNCR?
Eventually the only people remaining will be just like them.

I know of another forum that has been accused of that.

Hey, Crash... How about if you just quit acting like a dick, all the time? I've seen you offer intelligent, thoughtful input to discussions on the other forum. If you tried that for a while, I think people would be more inclined to see your shenanigans in a more benevolent light. I can't think of anyone though, who wants to hear about your penis, or the woman. You've worn out the joke. It's not funny anymore.

kenny, I am not calling for anyone to be banned. I want to make that clear now. I was hesitant to post anything at all in this thread, but I felt that jgoo was so far off the mark that he couldn't see what the real problem was.

I've seen the other Crash. He's a person, with feelings and with empathy. Here, he's an empty headed child.

Many people act differently at WTF than they do here at TNCR.
It is their right.
I do.
Daniel does.
