HOLY CARP!!!
|
First, a picture of the piano :![]() See how beautiful and shiny that piano is? (Oh, don't mind the guy sitting in front of the piano. That's just ivorythumper playing some rock & roll, Keith Jarret, Bach, Beethoven, more rock & roll, and lots of improvs.) Now on to the women : ![]() Above, from left to right, there's that rock & roll architect guy again, the tall blonde married to that rock & roll architect guy (musicasacra), and local piano party scene celeb BeeLady. ![]() Above, from left to right, there's me, another local piano party celeb TerryTunes, ivorythumper, and musicasacra. TerryTunes played the Maple Leaf Rag and a Brahms Intermezzo, among other things -- she came with sheet music! I fully intended to discuss the superiority of consequentialist ethics, the theory of evolution, the moral underpinnings of women's right to choose and same-sex couple's right to marriage, and the Bush foreign policy's many failings to correct many of ivoerythumper's incorrect understanding on these matters, but, perhaps it's because of ivorythumper's and TerryTune's music, perhaps it's because we just miss the D'Ohs too much, perhaps it's because Quirt's not there to remind us, perhaps it's because of musicasacra's tall hot blondeness, we forgot to discuss any of these issues. I wonder how D'Oh feels now... |

Well, if I'd only known that D'Oh wasn't going to be there ... you know how I feel about going to parties with HIM ... Seriously, though, I'm sorry we couldn't make it. |

Again, Ax, thank you! How wonderfully gracious an evening it was! (You should all know that Ax drove several hours in the pouring rain to pick up MS and me from our hotel and return us safely afterwards). Mrs Ax and the Axlettes are an adorable family -- you have many rich blessing in your life! After a lovely meal of Chinese food, we took turns playing. Ax has a great and delicate improv style, and his Kawai has a suh-weeeeeet sound and touch. I was so glad to be able to meet BeeLady and TerryTunes as well! What a bonus! It was a truly memorable evening. I hope you will allow us to reciprocate when you and your family come to Arizona! PS:
I've come to the conclusion that you must not really believe any of those things about consequentialism or critiques of traditional thought. You are far too nice and gracious in person. I now see it all must have been a very clever ploy to engage me in spirited discussion -- playing advocatus diaboli -- a jeu des mots-- since when you actually had your chance to go face to face, you deferred. ![]() PPS: You also get the prize for looking most like your avatar -- always smiling!!! |

Kawai model RX-A grand piano, made in 1992, 197 cm (6 ft. 6 in.) in length. The same one I used to make the stuff I put on PW CD... so just pop PW CD into our CD player if you want to know what it sounds like (or go to my recordings page linked from my signature; the later half of the "Recurring Fantasy" movement is a particularly good exploration of that piano's tonal palette that I'm quite pleased with).
