HOLY CARP!!!

So, incidentally, I went to a rock concert for the first time in my life tonight. Yup. It was a charity concert, and different bands were playing. I went because one of my fellow klezmer co-conspirators was playing with his band. So I got there and the (teenage) band before them was screaming about sluts, head-banging, drum-banging, bass-banging, this stuff that I'd never really listened to before. And I, this nice little musicologist, sat in the back with my hands in my pockets. Another friend of mine who happened to be there had toilet paper in his ears! (But he was jumping around dancing anyway.)So then my friend's band set up, and they do *everything*. They started with some bossa stuff, then some jazz, then some more rockish stuff. And then, they played some Israeli music. Keep in mind that most of the crowd is obviously very goyish. One of the players came out and made us all stand in a big circle, and taught us Israeli folk dancing while the band played...... at a rock concert...... ![]() I didn't quite know what to expect, since I'd never been to a rock concert before, but I definitely did not expect a bar mitzvah party! (and then, that was followed by some Caribbean music, complete with ukulele, percussion of all shapes and sizes that were passed out to the audience.... these guys really play everything....) step, clap clap, step, clap....
