HOLY CARP!!!

This is a letter to the Mustang Forum. Thought it was pretty funny. If D'Oh drove a 'Stang he'd write a letter in such a situation. http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showthread.p...720#post1084720 |

Off topic, but you DID mention Mustang! I restored it from the ground up, took over 2 years. Then. . . I sold it (the car, not my wife or son!).

meanwhile, back on topic - I had a 66 convert, then a 65 then a cherry 67 I brought back from San Diego. My dad had a 64 1/2 and a 68 convert. My brother had a beater 67 that ran 4-ever. Must have had 200K + on it. So we have been a Mustang family. We rented a new convert when we were in Cali last summer. I was absolutely amazed that they had done so well at not getting just the looks but the ride, feel and handling of the car right. Well done retro job. You looked up over that peaked/rounded hood just like the originals. It was fun. |

Kind of on/off topic. Mustang--fine GT--fine too, it's still a Ford. But why get a Shelby or a Saleen? Hot cars with a "basic" Ford body. Why not get something that LOOKS exotic if it indeed is something exotic? You have to look hard to see that little embossed "Cobra" or "Saleen" on the rear bumper. (FYI I had 3 mustangs over the years--none of them sexy. )

When you say they "got the ride, feel and handling... right" do you mean it took you back in time to the wallowing suspension, bump stops crashing over potholes and the vague and wandering steering? My father in law had a restored '66 that I drove a couple of times and that made me decide to forget about getting an old car. Lucky for me there is a lot of these "resto" rides coming out these days. I love the look of the current Mustang. |

Hah! And don't forget the stopping ability that 4-wheel drum brakes provide! I could go around 120 mph no problem (hi-po 289 @redline), but had to coast to 70 and then use a combination of downshifting and brakes if I wanted to stop. My next project (but I sold it...) was to get the front disc brake kit. Looked great, lots of power, even had the original rare chrome A/C console and Pony interior, but handled like carp (steering "box" using worm gear, springs front, leaf springs rear, sloppy power steering control valve, etc.). When you drove, you did need to pay attention. |

I love Mustangs. The vintage ones. The retros look pretty nifty, too. When I was four, my dad had a burnt orange Roadrunner. Even back then, I knew it was a cool car.

I have owned two mustangs. An '84 Lx that was a piece of crap but ran good and my current car that runs like a striped ass ape and handles and stops beautifully. Independent rear suspension, 13 inch disc brakes all around (I am at 63.5 K with the original brakes) and high performance suspension. All stock. It is just flat fun to drive. |

It sucks in the snow. Fortunately, we don't get a lot of that. |

Proof, if any were needed, that JBryan's reluctance to accept Global Warming is nothing more than a desire to drive his wasteful American gas-guzzler EVERYWHERE!!!!! I'll go further, and suggest that JBryan is none other than..... [Pulls mask from head a la Scooby-Doo) IT'S EDSEL FORD! (And I'd have got away with it too, if it wasn't for you interfering doo-goody-two-shoes environmentalismists!) |
