HOLY CARP!!!
I saw it on TV last night.

I could watch it for hours and hours without getting bored.

I am sure that the artistic value of his paintings is arguable, but these broadcasts have a mesmerizing effect on me. And this although I have always hated painting myself - it was actually my worst subject at school.

Yeah, this is the guy that paints landscapes with a house painting brush. There is another one who does it with toilet paper.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

I've seen his shows before. I agree... Fascinating to watch!

Bob Ross is great...also great to take a nap to, if you prefer.

If you search YouTube for Bob Ross, you'll find some cool (and funny) videos.

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
You know those Starving Artists shows? The ones that sell paintings like this?

There's a reason those guys are starving.

I agree, Klaus. There's something about the whole creative process that's fascinating to watch. I think any of the visual arts share some of this. I can watch someone doing ice carving, chainsaw sculpture, throwing pottery or any such creative activity in the same way. The ability to see something in the mind and then bring it into existence through brush or pen strokes, cuts of a knife or chisel, pressure of the hands on the clay, or whatever always astounds me.

I think about the same issues with other creative activities like music composition, but it's not easy to see the work in progress there. Even relatively noncreative activities like machining, welding, woodworking and such excite appreciation of the craftsmanship involved.

Isn't that almost literally watching paint dry?

Much is lost when an idea goes from the brain to the fingers. Keeping the integrity of the idea in place while it's moving from imagination to reality is very difficult indeed.

^_^ You probably haven't seen this spoof, it's from a Canadian comedy show, 'This hour has 22 minutes'. One of the best comedic guys around, imo.
