HOLY CARP!!!
if I've taken anything too seriously this morning.

I found out this morning that someone close to me commited suicide last night. He's in Connecticut. We're not sure if I'll be able to fly up or not. We're still trying to figure it out.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Peggy.

You have nothing to apologize for, IMO.

You have my prayers and sympathy.

Oh Peggy. I'm sorry to hear this.

Take care of yourself - we're all here for you.
Death is simply a shedding of the physical body like the butterfly shedding its cocoon. It is a transition to a higher state of consciousness where you continue to perceive, to understand, to laugh, and to be able to grow.

Thanks guys.

Things are really tough right now for a lot of people.

I'm just numb.

I know sometimes some of us have made fun of Rodney King saying "why can't we all just get along" but it's times like these that I really wish we could.

I'm sorry. I'm just numb.

Peggy, I'm very sorry. We were just discussing the impacts of suicide in our Sunday school class last week because one of our members who is a school teacher has a student whose father recently committed suicide. My thoughts and prayer are with you and your family.

If you find it helpful to apologize, then please do so, but I find it hard to imagine that a kind and thoughtful person like yourself could have much to apologize for.

Peggy, I do hope you can make it. Was the suicide a complete surprise?

You of all people have nothing to apologize for here.

Peg,

A few years back some friends and I spent some time with a young couple. She was beautiful and artistically talented, he a charming young guy who had a great financial career ahead of him. They were getting married out of state. She took off the couple of days prior to get ready. The wedding was Saturday. On Friday, the groom came home early to discover his bride-to-be hanging from the top of the stairs in the townhouse they shared.

It turned out that she'd suffered from depression. Her family told her NEVER to tell anyone that she'd been hospitalized. It was a stigma that she should never share with anyone, especially her husband. After her death, her husband told us that he thought that she just felt she had no where to turn. I'm not sure that's the whole story - but she didn't avail herself of help. She was a truly lovely human being - and what it did to him... He never went to their home again. He left the state.

Very sorry for you and all of the folks whose lives have been touched so tragically.
I'm not sure it will ever make sense - but hope that maybe some others will learn something valuable from this.

K

Sad... It's a shame that there's such a stigma attached to depression, too. My younger brother has it. He was going on about how embarrassed he was to be on anti-depressants. I told him that he was taking physical medicine for a physical problem, and that just because it wasn't visible, like a cut or something, didn't make it any less real. After that, he seemed to relax a little...

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

That is so true, Frank. The wife of someone I know recently was hospitilised with a bout of depression, and the intial reaction of most people (myself included) was that it was something not to be talked about. Had she had a surgical issue, everyone would have asked after her, stopped hubby in the streets, etc. The good thing was that eventually we all did start talking about it; so many people have a story of someone they know who has dealt with this. It seems to have touched many people's lives.
