Take this statement:

Everything will be fine in the end.
If everything is not fine, it's not in the end.

Now:

Do you see this as having a homosexual connotation?

Do you see this as just a play on words?

I've heard this before, but not with the "in" before "the end" in the second line.

Why does it read "it's not in the end?" Why the need for the "in?" It sounds odd, and if someone took that to have a sexual connotation I guess I could see why.

It has the word "in" in it because the word "in" is in the first line. Without it, it would read "everything will be fine the end." and that makes no sense.

"Everything will be fine in the end

That is the original, old saw of a statement. It's been around for years. To make a play of it, the word "in" is just part of it. Without the word "in" you'd have to write:

Everything will be fine the end,
If everything isn't fine, it's not the end.

That makes no sense, and it alters the original old saying.

It does *not* mean "in" anything other than "the end".

Now - if you see "the end" as a reference to homosexuality, you're a pervert with your mind in the gutter....... ;)

I see it as bait for Daniel -- so, yes, it does have homosexual connotations by design, in order to snare him.

Otherwise it's just a common Maxim that has nothing to do with buttsecks.

No it wasn't bait for Daniel - Daniel *made* it bait. It wasn't the first time I'd written the statement.

What PJ said.

Daniel is a bit off his rocker, but you are not as innocent as you claim, Larry. You play Daniel like an instrument, and he is stupid enough to take part in this.

Whether it was bait for Daniel or not is beside the point.

If Daniel wasn't a part of this, do you see a sexual connotation in the statement, or do you just see a play on words?

Here's another one:

Life is what you make it.
If you don't have life, it means you didn't make it.

If you can't climb, you aren't a success..

See any sexual connotations there?

But *you* put it in this new thread with the intent of getting a reaction from him (and having another chance to call him a pervert).

Actually, no. I have made the statement in two other threads. Daniel chose to accuse me of writing it to take a shot at his being a homosexual. The truth is, I didn't even write the thing. I read it somewhere and thought it was funny. I started this thread to see if anyone else was as dirty minded as Daniel, since it had not occurred to me (honestly) that anyone could make a reference to homosexuals out of it.

Not a very effective pervert test, IMHO. I think a more appropriate approach would be to display photographs of farmyard genitalia and ask whether the photographs make the reader feel happy in his or her pants. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.

I think this thread may be a better test for obsessive-compulsive disorder. Beware the tester, for you may find yourself also tested.

By the way, Larry, it was from you that I first learned the fine art of *putting asterisks around words for emphasis*. I'm just not sure, if the emphasis is at the *end* of the sentence, if I should put the period to the left or right of the final asterisk.

Either way, I've even used it in writing assignments for my college classes... :D

I forget which word processor program does it, but one of them will automatically "bold" anything you put between asterisks. That's where I got in the habit...

I have to run to work, but real quick:

I'm talking about the "in" in the SECOND line, Larry. And why did you omit it from the second line in your repeating of the statement here?

And I googled the phrase, and I see many cases of it like this:

Quote:

Everything will be fine in the end,
If everything isn't fine, it's not the end.

and no cases of it how I originally have you quoted as typing it.

I don't know for sure, but I'm assuming this all is related to another member of the forum, in which case I wouldn't be surprised if it was meant to have a homosexual connotation.

And no, my mind is not in the gutter.

1. No.

2. It's a little more than that ... it's a play on words with a message.

So what is one supposed to make of a sociopath? He does something deliberately and then he denies that he did it deliberately (while at the same time admitting it).

I am off my rocker and Larry is sane? Alrighty then. Wow.

Let me put an end to this since Larry seems to be hopelessly lost.

Yes, it was a reference to sex.
