But then I'm old fashioned. I think men should remove their hats during the national anthem. (Not to mention at the dinner table).

Gentlemen do , Peggy. They always have...

Clearly you and I have vastly different definitions of what is and is not gentlemanly.

(But FWIW, I always do it too.)

Jack, your boy's doing crappy stuff that's going to lose ( ) him the election.

He can get all the nominations he wants--it's stuff like this that kills the big ones.

Tom aka Karl Rove, Jr.

You may be right that he will not get the nomination even, but it is not because of what he does, it is how the Clinton machine spins it.

Who the heck do you think is behind this flurry of emails about something that happened many months ago?

They are good, brutal and dishonest.

But most people take this stuff as fact, as spun, including a lot of you.

All it says to me is that he sometimes doesn't hold his hand over his heart. I read nothing into his character at all.

While we're at it, I'd suggest that holding your hand over your heart is not a requirement for reverence, respect, being attentive, etc. It's not like he was on his cell phone or not paying attention.

When I went to Chapel at school, I'd have a problem saying the Creed during Eucharist, not because I disagreed with it but because I didn't like the way everyone had to say it as if they wholehearted agreed. Sometimes I said it and sometimes I'd ostentatiously not say it. Now, I think, if you go to that school, you damn well say the Creed. There's no in-between. Either you do or you don't.

Especially if it's the national anthem and you're trying for Presidency.
Death is simply a shedding of the physical body like the butterfly shedding its cocoon. It is a transition to a higher state of consciousness where you continue to perceive, to understand, to laugh, and to be able to grow.

What's the real issue here, putting your hand on your heart or showing respect? What if you could do one without doing the other? I think you can.

Jack, the photo/video are not spin. It's just plain fact. This isn't something that can be misinterpreted, the way words can.

I don't care WHY it's being brought up now. I personally hadn't seen it until today. I'm glad it WAS brought up, though.

Your personal opinion is that you can. I would venture that most people disagree. Certainly, the rules of basic protocol disagree with you, especially for someone on stage before millions, running to be the President Of The United States.

AL, to be honest, if I'm at a ballgame let's say, and the guy next to me doesn't take his hat off during the anthem, and it's a guy I don't know, I could care less. That's his business. But I'd like to see my president do it. I'm not an Obama fan anyway so he didn't lose my vote. He never had it.

A few weeks ago the NFL played a football game over in Britain. You probably saw it. Anyhow, when the Brits sang "God Save the Queen" EVERYONE it seemed was singing. And Mark and I both thought why can't the American's belt out our anthem with such love and pride. Maybe it's because it's a tough song to sing. I don't know. But, it would be nice.

I think that with this particular man, the line between putting your hand on your heart and showing respect is too fine to be trodden. Better to be on the safe side, don't you think?

I agree with Peggy - it seems odd that sometimes he does and sometimes he doesn't - which is it? Does he respect, or does he not?

Putting your hand on your heart is a *visible* sign of respect. For all to see. It's an acknowlegement to everyone, that you have respect for something and can show it.

Well obviously this is a bonehead move on his part.

But his inconsistency with putting his hand on his heart has nothing to do with when he does and does not show respect.

It most certainly does when he's running for President. (IMO)

So it's keeping up appearances that's important here? It's not so much showing respect than it is making everyone think you are? Can't say I agree with that much. I imagine you feel the same way, but that's how your comment sounded to me.

Doing nothing becomes automatically disrespectful if you're a presidential candidate? I don't understand that, either.

You're wrong Frank, I understand what you're saying pretty well. I just disagree is all. I can totally see why this would piss some people off, but I'm not one of those people, and I disagree with their reasons for being so.

Can you imagine the shock the Europeans had when George Washington peacefully handed over the power of President to the next elected person?

Here's some more dirt....this came in an email to me today. Some of you realize this stuff is being spun by Hillary and her MINIONS and revel in it because you know Obama would be harder to beat than she; and some are just eating it up....

Enjoy! Don't worry about the truth of it.

Who is Barack Obama?

Very interesting and something that should be considered in your
choice.

If you do not ever forward anything else, please forward this to all
your contacts...this is very scary to think of what lies ahead of us
here in our own United States...better heed this and pray about it and share it.

We checked this out on "snopes.com". It is factual. Check for yourself.

Who is Barack Obama?

Probable U. S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu , Hawaii , to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black MUSLIM from Nyangoma-Kogel , Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white ATHIEST from Wichita , Kansas .
Obama's parents met at the University of Hawaii . When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced. His father returned toKenya . His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a RADICAL Muslim from Indonesia .

When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocate to Indonesia . Obama attended a MUSLIM school in Jakarta . He also spent two years in a Catholic school.

Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim. He is quick to point out that, "He was once a Muslim, but that he also attended Catholic school."

Obama's political handlers are attempting to make it appear that he is not a radical.

Obama's introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence was temporary at best. In reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any direct influence over his son's education.

Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama's mother, Ann Dunham, introduced his stepson to Islam. Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta .

Wahabism is the RADICAL teaching that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world. Since it is politically expedient to be a CHRISTIAN when seeking major public office in the United States , Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background. ALSO, keep in mind that when he was sworn into office he DID NOT use the Holy Bible, but instead the Koran.
Barack Hussein Obama will NOT recite the Pledge of Allegience nor will he show any reverence for our flag. While others place their hands over their hearts, Obama turns his back to the flag and slouches.

Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential candidacy.

The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside out, what better way to start than at the highest level - through the President of the United States , one of their own!!!!

Please forward to everyone you know. Would you want this man leading our country?......
