I think the vast majority are undecided. This IS going to sway a lot of people.

If that's the case then we're all as dumb as they say.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I disagree. I think this is the most basic and common sense of issues. He can't be bothered to put his f'cking hand over his heart for the national anthem? Come ON... If we're talking about idiots, he's the prime candidate.

I truly doubt that, Frank. Anyone for whom this is a big deal would never have voted for him anyway, even if he had an American flag tattooed on one arm and a big heart with "Mom" written on it on the other, next to "Semper Fi".
It would be unwise to underestimate what large groups of ill-informed people acting together can achieve. -- John D'Oh, January 14, 2010.

What do you feel, when you do that?
Death is simply a shedding of the physical body like the butterfly shedding its cocoon. It is a transition to a higher state of consciousness where you continue to perceive, to understand, to laugh, and to be able to grow.

There are plenty of veterans who are currently serving, or who have served, who are democrats, and probably will vote democrat. I think he's lost that much of the vote. I don't see Obama's move as anything other than political suicide. Who's he hoping to impress by this little stunt? I think it's going to mean more in the long run, than people (Obama included) think it does.

It's just basic respect, Sarah. In Japan, training with Japanese troops, the Japanese anthem would be played first, and then the American anthem would be played. We stood at attention and saluted throughout both anthems. If I were in Britain and the British anthem were played, I would stand and place my hand over my heart, or whatever the custom is.

There are a lot of black people who won't salute the flag. Given the church he belongs to, I have no doubt that his not saluting the flag was "code" to his "brothers and sisters".... then, deny it means anything.... never let whitey know what you're really thinking, and all that......

I'm not sure what you're asking. It's respect for the flag and the principles and ideals that it represents, as well as respect for the sacrifices that men and women have made for those principles and ideals. I feel pride, honor, a sense of unity, patriotism, respect, and reverence.

I don't know. I served with black people, white people, Asian people... I've never seen a black person refusing to render the appropriate respect.

lose. Not "loose."

Tom always gets that one wrong....

I seriously doubt he did it on purpose to make a point. As any PHOTOGRAPHER knows, it is easy to capture a moment out of context that looks like the opposite of what was happening.

Would you - with the British national anthem? (This is what Billy Connolly, a hilarious Scottish comedian, thinks of the national anthem - Billy Connolly sketch )

Yes, that is what I meant. The reason I asked is because on 11th November at 11am there is a two minutes' silence, during which one is supposed to think of the dead and those who gave their lives during the wars, and during which I am never able to keep my mind on the subject, and, terrible though this may be, it wanders off in Henry Sugar style. I think the two minutes' silence is a wonderful thing, and that we will remember them, but I would rather not be in company during it - I feel somewhat ashamed that I'm not thinking about what I'm supposed to be thinking about.

 Good luck deciphering the ramble!

No Jack, I didn't make it up. Why don't you read the article I linked, and then why don't you get your head out of Arianna Huffington's ass and go read about it? There's a whole world of information right at your fingertips - all you have to do is stop limiting what you read to only leftwing fruitcake sites.
