Identifying narcissists isn't difficult. Just look for the person who is constantly fishing for compliments
and admiration while breaking down over even the slightest bit of criticism.

While researching the history of the flag code, I came across this interesting bit of trivia: Bellamy salute

It was more than a little jarring to see the American students reciting the pledge of allegiance in this image.
Posted Image

In reading through the flag code, I found some instances where I have not been in compliance as well as noting certain other noncompliances that have gone unremarked at public events and even been considered as patriotic displays, some of which I have been aware of and even commented on.

Given the mileage this has gotten, I wonder if anyone has asked Senator Obama why he may have neglected to put his hand over his heart. I know I have not done so because I never understood it to be required other than reciting the pledge of allegiance. I have always stood and removed my hat if I was wearing one when the national anthem was played and prefer to sing along most times. Perhaps Senator Obama was simply as ignorant as I was. Of course, I usually ascribe bad behavior to ignorance, inattention, or carelessness rather than actual malice when I don't have any way of knowing the actor's real motives.

Incredible... There's a piece of history that wasn't covered in my US History classes!! :hair:

(And it's not lost on me how these images were brought forward and used against people to politically denigrate them.)

I agree with Moonbat but I can't speak for his reasoning. For me, I'd be less inclined to vote for them because getting worked up about the anthem/pledge betrays a fundamental irrationality in one's worldview.

Well I believe the Pledge of Allegiance is a relatively new "patriotic" thing to this country (1950's communist scare?), however the National Anthem and the flag are both very important to this country. They represent so many things to be proud of, and so many noble deaths to honor. America is not perfect, but it certainly is a country full of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. IMO, if someone gets tears in their eyes listening to the National Anthem while watching the Stars and Stripes fly with a background of fireworks...I think they *do* get the point. I'm so proud to be an American.

EDIT: I can understand if you, Moonbat, and others do not agree. Each person is brought up in a different environment, with their own evolving thoughts about their country and the world. To each their own as they say.

The GOD part was added in the '50's.

We don't need to know where it came from. We just need to do it. That' the important thing!

What else is ironic? IIRC, the National Anthem is set to the tune of a British drinking song. Yes, the same national anthem written while we were fighting the British.

Al,

The cardinal rule of politics: assume the worst about those you oppose and make excuses for those whom you support. Got that?

Now, speaking of excuses, Obama has said simply that he, like you and me apparently, was raised to put his hand on his heart during the pledge and stand at attention with his hat off and hands down during the Anthem. So that what he was doing.

Much ado about nothing....

big al, not as shocking as it looks. Before WWll,
that was the way we were tought. Most of the kids in the picture are doing it wrong. The arm was extended with the palm UP. Not like the Nazi's palm down. Add to the equasion none of us had ever heard of Hitler yet. When he burst on the scene we were changed to putting our hand over our hearts. By the way, Under God had not been added yet.

The woman butchering the anthem in that video sounds like she was full of some kind of firewater, for sure. That caterwauling... That's the worst damned rendition of the national anthem that I've ever heard in my life. WTF?!

Another old-fashioned opinion: IMO, the national anthem should be sung with dignity, without a lot of artistic interpretation/license.

That's the way we southern children would wave bye-bye to the carpetbaggers, as they rode out of town. Although, we usually had only one finger extended to show all the respect they deserved.

;)

Again, I would submit: Keeping the venue in mind, and the tone of the occasion. That woman at the political rally with Obama, singing like she's getting a hot piece of rebar jammed up her ass, no. That's not the appropriate time and place for that sh!t. Woodstock? Yeah... Why the hell not? Let 'er rip!!

Great video, by the way!! Priceless footage... :) :thumb:

And I might add that Obama was actually attempting to sing along. Now that goes way beyond the call of duty. :sing: :hair:
