LW, this was during the height of the Civil Rights Movement, in the late 60's. As the olympic athletes (track events, I think...) stood on the stand, the national anthem was played. Rather than holding their hands over their hearts, the athletes chose instead, to give the Black Power salute in protest.

So how is Ron Paul doing in the preselection, Mark? (just curious, I have not followed the results, and it is not much discussed in the news over here).

Thank you for responding.

I knew that, but it was just annoying that you insulted someone's English who is not a native speaker. I know, I know, it's not as bad as being insulted for being gay, but still....why?

And how are you today?

So how is Ron Paul doing in the preselection, Mark? (just curious, I have not followed the results, and it is not much discussed in the news over here).

Well, the media absolutely hates and ridicules him at every opportunity which is making things very difficult. The debate last night was not a real debate where one question is posed then each person gets so many minutes to respond. It went like this:

Softball questions to all candidates except Ron Paul. Hardball question after hardball question combined with unprofessional snickering to Ron Paul when they asked him anything at all.

He did fantastic too. He was the clear winner because he simply does not talk out of his ass like the others do. He is probably too intelligent overall for a good portion of the public though. He could use a lesson or two in "sound bite technology" if you know what I mean. The masses fall for the meaningless rhetoric over substance because their puny little brains can't process complex subjects like economics, history and political science.

Fox news bias showed loud and clear last night. They are a morally bankrupt organization. I am boycotting them and their advertisers as much as humanly possible. They disgust me.

Fund raising is still going well. He should raise several more million this month alone. He raised more than any of the other republican candidates last quarter as far as we know but the actual figures will not come out until January 31.

New donors are also up and growing daily. He received a bump in that stat from the debate last night. People can see through Fox News's childish behavior. Well some of us can anyway.

Still out here fighting! Going to a weekend long Gun Show at the county fair grounds with Hat, Buttons, Flyers, and basically just walking the show and if anyone asks I will provide more information.

I am trying to disconnect my emotions to this fight because it is a really draining experience. It's tough. When you see and hold near to your heart, the vision that our founders gave us and people are doing everything they can to squelch that message it gets to be very frustrating to say the least.

What is your first language, George?

Lithuanian. My parents spent WWII in Germany - all over the place - after fleeing the Soviets in Lithuania. They came here in 1948. I learned English on the streets from my friends. I haven't spoken it in ~ 20 years (my parents are gone) so, it would be a struggle getting it back.

No. Not a sense of shame. The bowed head: Oppression and sorrow. The raised fist: Defiance.

Most people pray with their heads hanging low... unless they too are all ashamed, surely there are other explanations for not holding one's head high. :)

It just makes more sense that an expression such as "black power" would bring with it a head held high, in you face kind of attitude not one of submission which the bowed head connotes.

Technically it is Daniel vs. Pretty Much Everybody.

I suggest Daniel leave this forum, he obviously cannot take a joke and/or let an insult bounce off him.

Shoot...I'm insulted every day, usually by a driver behind me sticking up the finger next to his ring finger but not the pinky finger. I usually assume he doesn't have control of his other fingers and is just waving at me. Sometimes he flashes his lights to get my attention to let me know that he's waving at me with one finger. That brings me joy. I don't know where I am right now.

George, you're a native - Lithuanian?!!

I've spoken with you on the phone - not a trace of an accent!

Wow.

BTW, I second everyone else's comments regarding Klaus' fluency. You speak impeccable English on "paper", mein Freund.

I took four years of German in high school. My German is atrocious.

Wow.

No, no. Native American. Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1950. However, Lithuanian was the first language I learned. It's what we spoke at home. Whenever my parents didn't want me to know what they were saying they'd start speaking in Russian, or Polish, or, for a short while, German. I started to pick up German and took it in high school/college. Spent 6 weeks in Austria back in the late 60's!

Austria is beautiful. Some friends of mine just returned from a tour, where they attended a New Year's banquet with the King and Queen. Gorgeous theaters, wonderful architecture, amazing art...
