US traffic-related fatalities were 43,200 in 2005.  Quit whining and fix your car.

Yeah, seriously. 89th's loose parking brake and fog lamp lightbulbs are really putting lives at risk.

Fog lamps and parking brakes are both safety equipment. Kids have been killed by parking brakes failing and cars rolling.

My point here is that there is a greater good that outweighs the inconvenience. If you don't like it, call your state representative and help get it loosened up. You can do that you know. You'd be surprised how much one person can change.

Well, 89th's car is an automatic, and IIRC he parks out in the flat street. If he turned his wheels, the risk of killing a child from a rolling car is almost zero.

For fog lamps, same thing. The amount of functionality they add is very small indeed.

I do agree with you though, that it's just overall good practice to get something fixed in your car, especially if what's broken is a safety concern. But if you want to talk about the real, actual increase of risk, it's pretty darn small.

And you're right, I'd be completely surprised if one regular citizen brought about any kind of significant change by sending in a letter to their representative. The occurrences of that are so few and far between I wouldn't consider it worth my time to put a stamp on the envelope.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

You are wrong about that Aqua. I changed the state of Ohio's rules for processing the registration of a new business with one letter and two phone calls.

Apparently the law is that a cop can give you a ticket for driving with a rejected inspection sticker, EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE TO DRIVE IN ORDER TO GET THE ITEMS IN YOUR CAR FIXED!!!!!!!!!1

Yeppers. That's why you get the inspection BEFORE it expires. I got TWO tickets for not having a sticker within 9 days of each other. I had just moved back to VA from MD. Luckily the judge completely waived the second ticket, since it was for the same thing. Stupid cop. She was SO rude.

Thanks for reminding me, though. Mine expires in February.
And how are you today?

Yeah, especially from a female cop. They're worse than the guys, I think.

I've never met one that's been run-of-the-mill, that's for sure. Either they've been really awesome or total assholes towards me.

Ditto. I've never had a good experience with female cops, before... I don't know why that is, but man... It sucks, and not in a GOOD way!

I think it's because they have to prove that they can be as tough as the men. It just makes them assholes, though. Well, Aqua is right: They're either really cool or assholes, but nothing in between.

Pretty much, yeah... The two worst cops to be pulled over by:
Motorcycle cop, whose sole raison d'etre is to give traffic tickets, or a young female traffic cop.

No matter what, you're coming out of the encounter with a damn ticket. Period.

Well my experience has been that if you take your car in early to get inspected and it gets rejected, you are in the same boat as me, even if your first inspection hasn't expired yet.

My point is that as soon as your inspection is rejected, it doesn't matter how early you went, you are automatically breaking a traffic law by driving the car. It could be 1 minute and it could be 1 month.
