Invention; ...advice?

89th, should music be made for the art of it, or for the money in it?
Should inventions be made for the art of it, or for the money in it?
If an invention, which is a creative work by the inventor, deserves patent protection to stop people from making their own copy of it, why not music? If you wanted a copy of this invention, should you be entitled to a copy of it if you could get it, without paying for it? If not, then why do you feel it is ok to make a copy of the music you want without paying for that?

I'm not the only person here who thinks you're being two faced on this issue, 89th - and I'm not the only one who has pointed it out to you. I made my comment in this thread because the irony was just too much to pass up. I'm sure I'm not the only person who sees your asking how to protect your friend's interests humorous, given your statements about copyright.

I haven't said anything because I hold the same view, and mine is very cut and dry:

If you download and enjoy music without paying for it, it's theft.
If you download and enjoy movies without paying for them, it's theft.
If you upload someone else's work so that someone else can download it without paying for it, you are an accessory to theft.

It takes a hell of a lot of work to create music, a movie, or a new invention. For someone to steal your work so that you don't receive any money for it, it's no different than if you put in an eight-hour day and your employer didn't pay you for it. Your employer would be guilty of theft.

Theft is theft. Period.

And that's perfectly fine and I may agree with you more than you know.

However look at it this way (hypothetical).....just because our views might not be perfectly in sync, does NOT mean you have the right to jump into any thread (like a troll) and *claim* that my view is suddenly that all music should be free regardless of form or production or cost or whatever. What Larry is doing is he is saying that since I'm not 100% to his side of the spectrum, that by default I'm on the exact opposite side of the spectrum.

This is a constant problem that I (and others) have with Larry's debating style. And the fact that he CONTINUES to do this (simplify and misrepresent the views of others) gets old, annoying, and gives me another reason to ignore him. And the fact that he throws these unsolicited jabs into threads THAT HAVE NOTHING to do with that subject is just wrong and I'm sure you agree. If you started a thread about SCUBA gear and I jumped in and threw a jab at you about something you said a while ago, you would get annoyed with me, right? Same thing is happening here...and Larry does it all the time. To me, to JF, to Kathy, to Daniel, to Quirt, to Aqua.....see what I mean?

Please PM me if you are really interested in my views.

Or start another thread.

But stop throwing *off-topic mud* around in otherwise clean threads. You do this all the time in other threads and I will not aid you in your effort to do this in my thread.

If you would like to discuss the thread topic, please feel free otherwise I am not responding to you anymore in this thread.

HOLY CARP!!!
if the invention is indeed unique, it doesnt matter how small it is, you must get a patent. I have an old boyfriend (yes, another one, I collect them, they're entertaining and fun to look at :P ) who holds several patents, one of which ended up making him a bloody fortune because a major manufacturer of children's products infringed upon his patent rights. That's right...my Timmy invented the leak-proof sippy cup. When the Company That Shall Remain Nameless stole his design, he sued and won, to the tune of a couple million bucks.

So...get the patent, it could prove handy.

I take it you dumped him grew apart before he collected that $2 mil. But did you dump him grow apart before or after he invented that leak-proof sippy cup?

I dumped him looooooooong before...he was my high school boyfriend and we dated off and on while I was in college. He married a couple years after I did, but it didn't last long. He just remarried about 2 years ago and this one is a keeper!

It's funny...he never had any kids. The reason he came up with the idea is because he had to babysit his sister's kids and they were always spilling stuff all over. I think she said something like, "Someody ought to make a cup that won't spill," so he did. I admire that...see a problem, fix it. He's a wonderful friend.

I see it was designed to keep your privates informed, too. I'm not really sure what it's supposed to inform one's privates of, but hey... I'm no inventor..... :D

For trucks, buses, vans or PRIVATES!!!

I don't think I have ever needed something like that.

You don't need to know the distance in front of you?

And I'm absolutely certain a "Response Time Alarm" would be a good thing. Especially since it signals when you are in the danger zone.

I don't have any problem knowing when I'm in the "danger zone". But a depth gauge would be a nice addition....... :D
