I know of no HR folks who would tolerate that cartoon publicly displayed.  Ran it by a couple friends in the field and they both said the person who posted that cartoon would be doing their career some damage and would be not only instructed to take it down but counseled and possibly reprimanded.

Indeed.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

I don't doubt that, but counseled and/or reprimanded? That's taking it a bit far.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Oh, c'mon, Aqua. The cartoon is intentionally offensive in both language and content. Anyone who would display such a thing at work is a complete idiot who NEEDS counseling badly.

Yes, it's stupid, and you have to be a complete idiot to post it at work. But counseling? C'mon.

If the cartoon is posted in your own office or cube, people need to lighten up. The vast majority of personal conflicts arise when someone takes something -- usually themselves -- a little too seriously.

The cartoon's real offensive, yeah. But so what? I think it's a shame it could lead to so much trouble.

If one of my reports put that up he'd be in deep sh!t, even though I find it funny. There are any number of people who would be deeply offended by it, and if someone in the workplace is too socially inept to realise this, he should probably be working in IT support.

Not psychological counseling, but work-place etiquette/company policy counseling.

Ah. Well yes, I'm sure that could come up. I'm fully aware that it would greatly offended a lot of people, but I still think that's a shame.

I don't find it offensive personally, but I can see why it would be offensive. If one of my employees were dumb enough to post that on their wall where everyone could see it, I would ask them to take it down. That's all.

 Sorry, I realise this is slightly off topic, but I got a much needed chuckle out of that this morning. Spent some time on the phone with an IT support person yesterday at work, and will be doing so again today. :ph43r:

You must be so greatful that your IT support professional has been saving your bacon over and over again. Have you offered to have his baby or offered up your daughter lately?

You can define "Politically Incorrect" to suit your taste.
However, rude, vulgar or trashy, remain appropriate descriptions of the cartoon.

I know, I know. In angry-white-manville, politically incorrect means 'jokes about blacks and gays'.

The F work is without question "rude, vulgar or trashy" regardless of political persuasion.

I don’t think there can be much serious question about this. A primary function of this word is to be "rude, vulgar or trashy". It is especially popular with high school boys trying to sound kind-of tough.

I understand your knee jerks whenever someone points out a mistake and you assume that they must be anti-gay or white.

I can assure you that use of the “F” word is to just about always "rude, vulgar or trashy". And this is true no matter what your sexual preference or skin color.

I’m not trying to censor it or anything, just pointing out that politically incorrect is probably not the right characterization in this case.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Great! This supports jon-nyc's original characterization of the cartoon as politically incorrect, and obliterates ivorythumper's assertion that the cartoon is not politically incorrect.

No, Ax. Politically incorrect is not the same as being emotionally truncated and relationally impaired.
The dogma lives loudly within me.

 Ha! Believe me, if we had ourselves our own IT support professional who saved our bacon all the times we needed our bacon saved, I'd be all over him like...like, I dunno (need a good Jollyism here). Doing without has made me very very appreciative of the profession.
Unfortunately, I'm dealing with an IT person from our 'internet service provider'. The dude I got yesterday (on the phone) had no concept of how a non-IT person thinks (and sees), and was seriously lacking in the humour department. We were unable to solve our problem.

Would someone who was relationally impaired refer to 'My giddy Aunt'?

:rimshot:

(rim-shotting one's own jokes is both vulgar and trashy)

the thing is with this particular cartoon, IMHO, is that is humorous when you first read it. Because anyone other than Joseph would probably want to say something like that to his wife. I know what Mark's like after an evening of riding around looking for a vacant motel/hotel. He gets pretty darn grumpy.

If you start to think and ponder, yes, it is offensive because we all want to be good little Christians and we don't like the idea of making a joke out of the Holy Family.

But don't you think the Holy Family may have had a sense of humor? What? They didn't laugh at themselves and life?

Just my thoughts and my 2 cents.

You're only saying that because you're emotionally truncated. I've always found it interesting how everybody hates political correctness until their ox (or in this case sacred cow) is gored. Providing that people don't laugh at me or the Queen, I think pretty much everything is fair game.
