Do any of you ever think twice about all of the personal information you have posted up on the web? With myspace, facebook, youtube, and even this very forum we all have the opportunity to show the world how we think, who we are, and what we look like. The other day I was discussing this with someone and they were basically telling me not to post stuff up that could be resurected 5, 10, 15 even 20 years from now someone could go back and see how I thought, what my lifestyle/vices/weaknesses were for whatever purposes. I was a little dismayed at the thought that I was exposing myself somehow by participating in this forum. Later my wife was saying.."I hope you aren't posting anything on that forum like that I'm pregnant...or where we live. That would be really stupid." I rolled my eyes, but a nagging voice was saying she's right. Is this paranoia? I was wondering if anyone else felt reluctant about sharing pictures, controversial opinions, or information about your home and family. Anyone? Beuller? |

I have thought about this quite a bit and have developed my own 'rules' as it were. Fundamentally, I have no concerns about personal information with respect to any of the regulars on this forums. I don't care if all the regulars here know my last name, my address, my workplace, my wifes name, and the name of any future kids I might have. For the most part I don't make a distinction between the regulars here and offline friends. (indeed, probably half the regulars here are 'offline' friends of mine and the other half probably will be at some point). What I'm concerned more about is people who know me in real life (but who aren't necessarily good friends) finding their way back to this site and learning more about me than I want them too. For example, someone from work googling me and discovering, say, my political opinions, or details about my sister-in-law's divorce. For that reason I am careful not to post identifying info such as last name, address, employers past and present, etc. Its not because I don't want people here to know, its to keep people from RL from finding me here without my knowledge. |

Well, I'm a big advocate of "Honesty is the best policy." What you see is what you get. I would have no qualms about meeting anyone from this place face-to-face for a drink or supper. I'm no different on-line than I am, in person. On the other hand, I don't advertise my home address or phone number. Then again, I'm not difficult to find. If someone from this place showed up at my door, I would welcome them in and extend them my most gracious hospitality. It's all good.

I use my real first and last name over on PW, and use the same screen name here and there, so there aren't exactly many secrets about me, I don't think. I may decide to re-register here under a different screen name, simply to help me feel less like I'm over there, when I'm over here. |

I'm mostly with Jon on this. I don't mind sharing some of my most personal thoughts and information here on this forum. I truly feel as if I am among friends. You guys know more about me than many of my real life friends and even some family members. But, then, I look at this community as being somewhat secluded and insular. I would probably never have a myspace page. Mark was concerned about my posting the babies pics at first but then we realized the kids have a myspace page so the babies' pictures are already out there. |

In this era of technology, you can basically find out whatever you want about others anyway...whether they are on the internet or not. What I try to do is keep certain key things (bank account, personal information, etc) very secure while at the same time not stressing too much if you know my first and last name and what city I live in. Kind of like what Frank was saying, I don't think anyone can blackmail me with anything I've said on here, since it's all honest anyway. We take risks every day and I try to only worry about the things that need worrying about. Quirt...how was that grammar?

TomK You posted some really nice photos last week of a woman who was scantily clad...flirtatious looking. You are a good photographer. You mentioned her husband had mistreated her. Has he seen these photos or does he know they were posted up on a online forum? What about her co-workers or students (if she is a teacher). Just curious because I bet those pics could be used in some way to embarass or humiliate her. Just wondering if you thought about online privacy. |

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead

I suspect that Tom thinks the odds that anyone would discover that he posts here would be infinitesimally small. Just be smart, as described by so many above. It is FAR riskier to order something online using a credit card and that is pretty safe. |

I always get my models to sign a waver that says I own the pictures lock stock and barrel. I don't charge for the photos--the women get nice photos (if I do say so myself) of themselves and free use thereof ( I don't care what they do with the pictures), and I also get free use thereof. There's a beauty in not working for money. |
