I can't believe it but in less than 1 hour it will be 1 year of not smoking (and not cheating once). I'd like to thank this forum for being instrumental in helping me quit. I would like to especially thank George for being inspirational and Mik for his support above and beyond the call of duty. Many people supported me in this choice and I am grateful for it. If you are a smoker, I cannot tell you that quitting smoking is easy, but I can tell you that it is possible.

Happy New Year!

Thanks, Jack! I can't see myself going back except in dire circumstances. For instance, if I was told I only had six months to live, I think I would smoke. In a way, I miss it. You know, I took your advice to not have even one. I am sure that that advice was essential to my success.

good work Daniel

do you enjoy smells and flavors more now? I would think there would be a whole new world of tastes and aromas that might have been significantly dulled by the smoking.

Thanks! Yes, smells become a lot more obvious to you. For instance, the smell of cigarette smoke (ironically enough). You can smell smoke on people's clothes and the cloud of stench that follows heavy smokers around. I think I can taste things better. I don't think I notice that as much.

Congratulations, Daniel. (and you, too, Jon). It does get easier and easier, but don't let that be the temptation to think you can't become readdicted starting with "only one". This is the voice of experience talking. I didn't make that mistake the last time I quit 16 years ago.

I wasn't a long time smoker, but long enough to know how addictive it is and how destructive to health it is. Big, big congratulations.
