HOLY CARP!!!
|
I picked this up for my classroom library about a month ago - and I haven't seen it since. I HAVE however gotten four book reviews for my "We Recommend" board about the book. I'm not sure which kid has it now, but they LOVE it. One of my very weak readers (he tests out at about a grade 2 level, but has very good coping skills so performs much higher) read it and was able to give me a pretty decent summary of Romeo and Juliet. Yeah, it doesn't have the depth of language and all that stuff, but these kids are now EXCITED about reading Shakespeare next year. ![]() http://www.amazon.com/Manga-Shakespeare-Ro...98809627&sr=1-2 I'm planning on picking this one up next week: http://www.amazon.com/Manga-Shakespeare-Ha...98809818&sr=1-1 Apparently, they're bringing out several more in the new year.

A Taiwanese cartoonist came out with a series of cartoon interpretations of Chinese classics (example) twenty years ago and I thought it was a great idea. Great to see this approach being applied to Shakespear.

That is so great to hear, Dol! We have several of these![]() and they hardly ever go out, despite my clever( ) moving of them to different sections all the time. Seems the kids that like Shakespeare want the real thing, and those that aren't there yet, are not drawn to these. The Manga ones may be the ones that make sense; really interesting to hear your success with them. So cool to hear this!
