Careful, Daniel. You might be giving away something that will be worth a fortune in a few years. . . |

Well, it's not REALLY awful...just...kind of. My grandmother gave me a red sweat suit. I haven't worn a sweat suit for 12 or 13 years. Why would someone give a nearly 22 year old a sweat suit??? At least I have something new to wear around the house.... |

Black and white with red trim. Good colors, really. Since I graduated, the school uses red more heavily, but I think that's wrong. |

black and red is EXCELLENT...two of my best colors, and the best choice for a school since I doubt you could ever get a school to agree to pink |

We chose pink and navy blue as our senior class colors. I have a polyester T-shirt to prove it. I also sang in high school. I auditioned for a small, travelling choir that rehearsed after school. Wonderful experience. I took voice lessons and worked hard just to keep up. One of the head Pantherettes made fun of me for that. What's up with that? But I digress. I'm better off not revisiting my high school days too often.... |

I don't know! All the really popular people in our high school were in choir. We had a prize winning choral program, I expect that is why, but nonetheless, in my school, the music and theater folks were the in-crowd. It's still that way...I direct shows at that school, last year, the prom king was one of my kids. what part did you sing? do you sing any these days? |

The jock strap is only one of a series of useful gifts Improv has received from me on Christmas morning. Here are some of the others: -- a dusty, half full bottle of British Sterling cologne found in the rear of the bathroom undersink cabinet -- a five inch wide orange crushed velvet tie -- a rubber chicken -- a lump of coal -- a keychain with a plastic pig attached -- a Pillsbury Dough Boy coin bank -- dirty socks culled from the laundry basket -- a can of Spam -- a card of shirt buttons -- a well used wallet The source for these gifts is endless, because, as he said, he never throws anything away.

Well, truth be told, I dated her X-boyfriend, so she would have mocked me for anything I did. She was mean. She drove a red corvette with her name on the license plate. I had no car, and had freckles. I think it was cool to be smart or talented in our district, in whatever capacity. I don't recall this woman having a talent other than driving her car. I sang first soprano. Our choir had maybe 40 singers total; 20 men and 20 women. We travelled, and wow, was it fun. As fun as it is to listen to; performing music is its own, unequalled thrill. --disclaimer-- I have no singing talent whatsoever. I played the piano and oboe, so I could read music and sing in key. I was also responsible, and showed up for all of the rehearsals, so that made me an asset. I don't sing now, but maybe if the chance arose.... |

how's the piano going? I'm learning how to play these ballet classes now which may really be my niche in piano. I read pretty well, and since I only have to learn 16 bars of something to be ready to rock and roll, I can do it! |

So much fun, thanks for asking. Again, I make no claim to having any talent in it, but I love it. I am already playing at a level that is higher than when I quit in high school, with a greater understanding of music theory and history. My teacher is traditional, so I'm learning Bach, Clementi, and Czerny. What, may I ask, are you singing these days??? |

Same old stuff...mostly sacred/oratorio these days in performance, but I keep my opera chops in shape for use, God willing, after the kids are grown. When I sing now, I need to get in and out quick...I don't have time to rehearse for a couple weeks, then sing a run of performances, so it has to be a one or two shot deal. Maybe in a few years, if there's enough of me left to work with, I'll dust off my union card and venture back onto the stage. |

I met a new friend recently, and she made me think of you, Deb. She sings, and has sung opera in NYC (I forget her stage name). Anyway, she just moved to Pittsburgh and has young kids, and stopped singing professionally--to be a mom. She recently auditioned for the a professional choir, to keep her voice active. She is loving it--and it is a lot fewer hours for her. |

We have a really good local professional choral ensemble (in fact, they were recently nominated for five Grammys!). I don't enjoy 'downsizing' my voice to make a choral blend. It makes me tense, so I know I wouldn't enjoy doing it constantly. I wish I did that easier, because I love the choral repertoire and have always loved being inside the sound as you are in a choir or orchestra. Also, for me, the theatre is at least as big a draw as the singing. I like costumes, makeup, and chewing on scenery

That makes sense, too. I'm guessing that my friend is hoping to make contacts / a reputation in her new hometown, and maybe bust out into a few solos in the future. I made her promise to let me write about her when she does.
