My family made the experiment of not exchanging any presents at christmas this year.

I think we'll repeat this experiment next year. It is incredibly difficult to make meaningful presents in a time where everyone has everything already.

My brother got an electric guitar, Guitar Hero III, and an iPod, the little brat. :P

I got heavy-duty bike tires, a tune up, books, CDs, and gift certificates.

Oh, and 5 lbs fatter. :D

Tempurpedic Deluxe King

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! :D

Mark, I want a detailed review of this bed after 1 month of sleeping on it , ok?

They sure do feel good laying on them when I try them at the fair/homegarden shows, but I want to hear from real people after they've had them for a bit.

Break it in good now bigboy!!

Thanks, Daniel.

Mark, I've had a Tempurpedic system on my king-sized bed for a few years, now. Mrs. Frank_W and I wouldn't trade it for anything... It took me a few nights to get accustomed to it, but after that... It's GREAT!!

Merry Christmas, everyone! You've all gotten such terrific stuff!

I received some very nice things -- George, you would love this book that my brother gave me:

Improv gave me a Faberge style egg pendant - he has given me one nearly every Christmas for over a decade. This year's looks similar to this one:

I gave him a chain saw. If he gets mad at me while the thing is still in the house, I guess I'm SOL.

And we gave each other a weeklong trip to St. Maarten next month, including first class air. It's the first time I've been able to travel without consulting a school schedule in over 20 years.

Apart from some useful things like clothing items, I got:

- money (always useful)
- The Complete Far Side by Gary Larson. :singdance: 18 lb of sheer hilarity. I've loved his cartoons for as long as I can remember, so I just had to have this.

In mid-December, the music shop in the neighbouring town (which had gone bankrupt somewhat earlier) had its clean-out sale whereI managed to get some nice things at good prices; kind-of pre-Christmas presents:

- two CDs: one with pieces for wind ensemble by Mozart, Beethoven and Rosetti, and one with Takemitsu's "In an Autumn Garden" for Gagaku orchestra. The latter I'd have expected in some kind of specialty shop, so when I saw it, I first couldn't quite believe my eyes and then immediately bought it.
- lots of Henle editions: Schubert Piano Sonatas vols. 1 and 3, Beethoven Variations vol. 1 and complete Bagatelles, Bach complete English Suites, Partitas and Toccatas (all at 70% off).
- a Yamaha YCL-64 clarinet. I've always wanted a clarinet, though the price of a good instrument made me think twice, but at half the usual price, I went ahead.
Why is it that the world never remembered the name of Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern Schplenden Schlitter Crasscrenbon Fried Digger Dingle Dangle Dongle Dungle Burstein von Knacker Thrasher Apple Banger Horowitz Ticolensic Grander Knotty Spelltinkle Grandlich Grumblemeyer Spelterwasser Kurstlich Himbleeisen Bahnwagen Gutenabend Bitte ein Nürnburger Bratwurstle Gerspurten Mitz Weimache Luber Hundsfut Gumberaber Shönedanker Kalbsfleisch Mittler Aucher von Hautkopft of Ulm?

When I went to Irleland last year I borrowed my mom's black cashmere cape. I fell in love with it, but dutifully returned it when I came back.

She and my dad shopped all over to find another one, and I got my own for Christmas. Very thoughtful.

It's longer, and has cashmere "ruffles" as trim.
