I think the frontrunners are going to be (gag) Hillary, McCain, and possibly, Paul. VP will end up being either Obama, Thompson, and possibly, Paul. Ron Paul seems to be the dark horse... A complete unknown, right up until the last minute. I'm not counting him out. |

Tommy, smart as Mitt is, he can't fix this one. He should have stayed true to himself.... He is out of the race in 3 weeks. In 4, Huckabee sinks like Howard Dean. jf |

From what I've read, this is one of the first times (if not the first) that a newspaper has gone negative in terms of an endorsement. Usually, they'll say "We support So-and-So because of XYZ." However, the Concord's saying "This man is unacceptable" is unprecedented. The main thrust of its attack is that Romney is a flip-flopper. True enough, Romney has changed his mind on some issues. But that hardly makes him unique among this year's candidates.
I wonder if they'll ask the same questions of the Democratic candidates. No I don't.
The editorial then fails to describe what baloney they see. I would expect more from a non-endorsement, other than the fact that they just disagree with his positions. |

Romney has changed his positions on the hot button issues- abortion and gay rights. It doesn't get more dramatic than that. He's a creep. |

At least, to my knowledge, he hasn't changed his positions on "cold button" issues like the death penalty, healthcare, the Patriot Act and gun control. Just pointing out the hypocrisy of an editorial criticizing him for changing positions while ignoring other candidates who do the same thing... It'll be interesting to see who is the candidate for the Democrats that this paper says you shouldn't vote for. They'll do that, right? No they won't. |

The United Church of Christ. He's a Congregationalist. Apparently you don't know anything about Congregationalism. The fact that his congregation serves black people doesn't make it a "black supremest church". |

Let me aks you a question, Daniel. If Romney or Huckabee belonged to a church whose mission statement said this, what would you think? "We are a congregation which is Unashamedly White and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the White religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are white people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a White worship service and ministries which address the White Community." Would you say that church is racist? |

Let's look at what you said: a black supremacist church. Absolutely not. There is a context for blacks as a minority group serving their own community. It has nothing to do with the opposite of "white supremacy". That's ridiculous. Not only that but it seems to me to be a perfectly reasonable thing for a Congregationalist church to be doing. That's what they're organized around- individual congregations. BTW, if you are going to give quotes, please give links. |

No. The point I was (unsuccessfully) trying to make is that the Concord goes out of its way to criticize Romney because he changed position. It goes so far as to say that you should not vote for him because he has done so. It is silent on other candidates who have done the same thing - at least so far. I eagerly await their condemnation of a Democratic candidate. |

I took it from their website. You said you'd already seen it. Now answer my question - if Huckabee or Romney belonged to a church whose mission statement was the one I wrote above, would you call that church racist? Yes or no will be fine. |

You should admit that you were wrong and that it is not a "black supremest" church. There isn't anything about black supremacy in it. So I don't agree to your exchange of white for black to prove a false point. And you got the quote wrong. We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community. Now please stop asking me to defend Obama. I think Jack could do a much better job. |

Daniel, just answer the question. You are dodging, and you know it. If one of the Republican candidates belonged to a church that had a mission statement the way I wrote that one, they would be blasted for being racist - and you'd be right in there blasting them. All I did was substitute white for the word Black, and leave out the part about slavery since whites weren't slaves. The truth is, it is *not* a "false point". It is a very valid point. Did you know that this church does not allow their members to date or marry whites? What if Huckabee said he belonged to a church that didn't allow their members to date or marry blacks? You are too obvious in your bias, Daniel. Here's another example - what if a candidate belonged to a church whose mission statement read as follows: "We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Heterosexual and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the heterosexual religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Heterosexual worship service and ministries which address the Heterosexual Community." What if Obama belonged to that church, Daniel? You can't have it both ways, Daniel. You can't say Osama's church is not racist but a church based on the White Experience is racist. That's why you are dodging the question. If you're going to involve yourself in these discussions, do so with some semblance of intellectual honesty.
What a childish demand, Daniel. Why should I do that - it *is* a black supremist church. |
