Geaux Tigers!

It's a tradition. By Christmas night, everybody's had one rich meal too many. And mama's been in the kitchen too much, anyway. So we go to simpler food, but we still have enough folks around to do a log rolling or a barn raising. So like most good food, supper needs to be hot, brown, and plenty of it. Usually, it's grilled cheeseburgers, although fried fish (done outside, of course) or steaks have creeped onto the menu, time to time. What's your non-traditional meal?... |

My wife's family's Italian--and lasagna is pretty standard with us. We raise goats--so we may have some goatmeat in the stuffing and the gravy with the turkey. |

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead

Mmmmm. The cheeseburger idea sounds good about now. Think I'll get one for lunch. But I think I'll braise some lamb shanks in red wine, onions and rosemary. Maybe a green salad with pears and arugula and bread or polenta. Bread is much easier. Probably bread. |

The cheese fondue we have on Christmas Eve. With my German roots, Christmas Eve was the big occasion for me, and I used to plan a special dinner, but then I would do the traditional turkey thing the next day as well. Too much too do, and yes, Jolly, too much food! Several years ago my son suggested the fondue, and I jumped all over that. It's so simple, it's sociable and casual, and we all love it. And I don't spend hours in the kitchen. Wish I'd thought of it years ago, but it is a tradition for us now.

My father's family used to be from New England. They had always had clam chowder for their Christmas meal. |

Whatever's in the fridge, that's quick and easy. There are only three of us, so... Meh... Whatever. |

I just picked up a beautiful prime rib, which I will rotisserie tomorrow. MS and IT and our two mothers -- a quiet Christmas dinner. (Though poor MS will be having mashed potatoes and stuffing only )

We had roast chicken, green bean casserole, Caesar salad, and for dessert, chocolate cheesecake. We used the fancy china and the good silver, too.

We had steak, roasted potatoes, corn on the cob, and salad. Right now I'm about to have biscuits and sausage along with a complete Christmas breakfast. Yum! A kind of 4th of July hot dog lunch and a traditional Christmas dinner. I'll have to remember this when I'm starving in January. LOL! |

We do our big meal on Christmas day. Because of my small family, there's just Liam, myself, and my mum and dad. Neither of my parents families do a Christmas dinner anymore, so Christmas Day is it. I'm hosting (I usually do). Traditional turkey. So last night I had the easy meal - Liam didn't want the shrimp that I was having, so he had soup (his favourite). For brekkie this morning, peameal bacon, eggs, and toast. |

Liam was up just before 8 - about 25 minutes after me. Peameal bacon is called "Canadian Bacon" in the US. It's thicker than regular bacon, far less fat, rolled in cornmeal before slicing. It's probably a different part of the pig than regular bacon, but it's cured in the same way. It's delicious (if you like bacon). |

We were having steaks on christmas evening, and Duck a L'orange today. I guess this is pretty traditional, though. |
