Relax, Deb, you are obviously choosing not to read what I've said, or for some reason do not understand. I said your statement
Quote:

I don't believe in atheists, I think all men know God exists, some choose to deny what God says they know, some very noisily
was arrogant; that's all. Why you have trouble addressing just that, is quite odd, but, hey, maybe you really don't see how ridiculous that comes across.
You are making it bigger than it needs to be, but if you really can't see how others see that, which appears to be the case, I will let it drop.

HOLY CARP!!!
Hey Sue, I'm real fine...I don't think I'm making a big deal about it. I certainly don't feel like it's a big deal, so if it seemed as if I did, I'll apologize. My feathers aren't ruffled a bit.

To answer what you said, I don't think I've avoided addressing what you say I'm avoiding addressing. I explained precisely what I meant by it, explained where the thoughts originated, and explained that I believe what that passage says, which I paraphrased in a kind of smart ass way because I am sometimes a bit of a smartass. If that is ridiculous and arrogant to you, fine...it's what I think and I can't/won't deny it. I also don't have an issue with how others see things. What people think of me isn't my focus. I try to focus on how I think God wants me to be, and I try to treat people as I think He wants me to treat them. That's pretty much all there is to me.

I have said that religious belief is irrational and flies in the face of the evidence of modern science and is declining rapidly in the face of such evidence. At some point in some far distant thread I even said that 500 years ago belief in a creator God might have been rational (not true, but reasonable to believe), but that it is so no longer.

Not Really. You approach it beginning with the belief that there is no God, so you find what you want to find. You want science to prove God doesn't exist, so you choose to see it that science is doing just that. I see science discovering how God did things, and proving God exists with every step they take.

I don't think it is fear or existential dread that causes religious belief (in general, some people might feel this way of course) but social acculturation, which is why you have Christians in the USA, Hindus in India, Moslems in Saudi Arabia, Mormons in Utah and so forth. It has little to do with fear, just acculturation and habit.

If that's as deep an understanding as you have about why people believe in God, it's no wonder you see things the way you do.

He doesn't really mean "evidence" evidence. Nothing that is truly scientific (measurable, verifiable, falsifiable, etc). He is talking about words, ideas, constructs, etc. If I am wrong, he can send me a jar of this evidence for me to process in my Junior Atheist Scientist Laboratory Kit(tm) that I got from Santa.

He also doesn't really really mean "irrational" irrational. Clearly people hold religious beliefs for rational reasons, that is the only way anyone can actually think through the construction of ratios between things.

But sloppy language is the main tool of the trade of ideologues.
The dogma lives loudly within me.

Daniel, why don't you post the quiz that came from. I'd bet a good portion of us would get a high sociopathic rating. Probably a few with higher than that 60%. Heck, I'd probably score at least a 70%.

And besides, isn't it GOOD when other people's opinions matter little to you?

I'm sorry but I don't have the quiz. You can look up "anti-social personality disorder" on Google though, and read about it if you're interested.

Opti,

This does not appear to be the same quiz, but maybe it will do.

You Are 100% Sociopath

You're so manipulative, you could make Hannibal Lector your bitch.
You feel superhuman - and you certainly lack human empathy.

You're empathetic, loyal, and introspective.
In other words, there's no way you're a sociopath... but you can spot one pretty easily!

From time to time, you may be a bit troubled and a bit too charming for your own good.
It's likely that you're not a sociopath... just quite smart and a bit out of the mainstream!

You're not a sociopath, but you're very prone to antisocial behavior.
Other people's opinions matter little to you. You live your own fringe life - for better or worse.
