HOLY CARP!!!
I don't know anyone who keeps a laptop for more than 3 years.

At least, my Windows-based laptops don't last longer than that in optimal performance. And Sony Vaios outright die on me within 3 years.

I've had this Dell for nearly 2 years. Its performance quirks are starting to annoy me. But that's ok -- I'm getting a MacBook Pro next month! :excited:

Another update:

I could get an add'l 15% off a Lenovo by using a PayPal link - but then I talked with "my computer guy" and he doesn't favor Lenovo any longer, feeling their quality is slipping and their tech support sucking.

He recommends Dell. So, I guess I'm looking more at the Latitude series. I should also note that I'm am getting a lot of advice to get XP and pass on Vista. I also was able to confirm that I get to install MS Office that I got at Costco onto two other systems - so I can put it on my daughter's laptop for free!

Thanks again everyone for the input.

Hmmm...no such thing as a Latitude laptop on the Dell site. Did it change to Inspiron or XPS? Or is the Latitude only for desktop systems?

Interesting. That's what my computer guy says too. Dell, and get it with XP. But he's a techy computer guy. Lots of 'regular' people ^_^ I've asked have negative responses to Dell. What to do, what to do.

Let me know what you decide on, Kincaid. Then I can be a copycat. :hat:

Well, the only two choices at Dell for Windows XP are the Inspiron 1520 (not a bad choice) or the XPS something-or-other that costs about $2500! :hair:

I think I'm going for the 1520. It starts out under $900 so that's not too bad. Configured like we want should be about $1200 maybe.
