HOLY CARP!!!
I will vote for nobody else in the 2008 presidential election.

It may seem sometimes that running for president is all about corporate jets, Secret Service protection and a fawning entourage. Not for Ron Paul, the libertarian anti-war outsider generating some fervent support and impressive fundraising totals. There he was at Washington Reagan airport last night lugging his bags onto the same Continental Airlines flight to Houston as me. On his own. Not an aide in sight.

Campaigning incognito: Ron Paul (centre) boards his plane in Washington

Once on the plane, no one seemed to notice who he was and he chatted amiably (he was sitting behind me) to the man next to him about the weather and the quality of the red wine. As we got off in Houston – he was there to spend 24 hours at home – I asked him about Mitt Romney’s address about his faith at College Station, Texas, which was where I was headed. He seemed only faintly aware it was happening. “Useless politicking!” he exclaimed. “Mormons against radical Baptists. Bah!”

Kinda reminds me of Nader....thanks for sharing Mark. :thumb:

Edit: I agree Peggy. While I agree with his idealistic foreign policy goals, I don't think he's being realistic enough to be Commander-In-Chief.

Mark, I am sure a lot of US Representatives go to the airport by themselves. It would appear Ron was in Washington doing his job as a Congressman. I'm not saying it is a bad thing, but I doubt it sets him completely apart from his brethren.

As far as Secret Service protection for candidates:

'Prior to the 2008 Presidential election, the Secret Service generally protected major candidates over the 120 days preceding an election. As a former First Lady, presidential candidate Hillary Clinton already has Secret Service protection. On May 3, 2007, the Secret Service announced that Senator Barack Obama would also have protection following a request from the campaign.'

Mark, there is a lot of good about Dr. Paul, but you do his candidacy a great disservice when you post things like this as though they were gospel.

He will bring the troops home.

I see nothing wrong with that at all.

Exactly what is "bah" about the Secret Service?

Do you think that there are not threats against the lives of Presidents and their families?

Ralph's a beast. When enough votes came in during the 2000 election, Gore and Bush were giving concession/victory speeches while Nader was holding a press conference on the importance of ADA or some such thing.

He was on NPR a little while ago. Good program; he had some very interesting things to say.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I love to have the troops come home. Do you think I want my baby brother over there? My brother says he has a mission and he believes his mission is an honorable one. I believe him. I certainly believe him over the politicians.

Mark - I was just looking further into Ron Paul's policy platform. I can tell you right now I would 100% vote for him *if* we didn't have the reality of what's happening in Iraq right now. Honestly I would have a bumper sticker for Ron Paul, and while I certainly agree with his foreign policy, it *must* be adjusted to let the situation in Iraq end in the best form possible and we all know that removing troops would do FAR more damage in the long run not only to us but the world.

Daniel - you didn't even know Richardson was running on the democrats side, so perhaps it's best if you stay away from any election threads...and stay away from the polls on November 4th next year. ^_^

Dear brother Isaac, I said I "hardly" knew he was running. That means I knew he was running but I don't care! That man is so boring! He'll never be President either.

Just because you said that Daniel, even if Ron Paul does not get elected I am going to keep posting things about him forever.

Just because of you.

Which is a shame. He's a smart, experienced, reasonable guy, with good moderate credentials and intelligent views on a lot of subjects.
