The Kwanzaa holiday was first celebrated in 1966.

To be sure, a tradition rich in culture and heritage.

Sorry for a dumb question, but what exactly is Kwanzaa? Is it from Africa (like a harvest festival)? Is it religious?

Ask Ron Karenga:

"Any man who would make an X rated movie should be forced to take his daughter to see it". - John Wayne

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

Henry II: I marvel at you after all these years. Still like a democratic drawbridge: going down for everybody.

Eleanor: At my age there's not much traffic anymore.

Oh, careful. I'm sure there's many people who believe that about Christmas.

Maybe you should have said it is a holiday created to make a certain group of people feel special.

Oh, careful. I'm sure there's many people who believe that about Christmas.

They can believe that if they want to, but there would still be a difference. Christians started celebrating Christmas because of their religious beliefs, and you can think of that what you will, but...

Quote:

"...it was chosen to give a Black alternative to the existing holiday and give Blacks an opportunity to celebrate themselves and history, rather than simply imitate the practice of the dominant society." - Ron Karenga, creator of Kwanzaa, http://www.believersweb.org/view.cfm?ID=917

...Kwanzaa was created because Karenga wanted to be different.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Being based in science does not mean it isn't fictitious.

Being fictitious doesn't mean it isn't based in science.

Anyway Kwanzaa was created in 1966 by Maulana Karenga, a convicted felon, who says it was created to give “Blacks an opportunity to celebrate themselves”.

It is a celebration of racism.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Let's see.

Can anyone think of another holiday that is a celebration of THEIR group? Hmmmm.

Every day is my day. White Middle-class Englishman day. We get together and laugh at those less fortunate than we are, which is pretty much everyone.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

I'll tell you, I know some white British peers--and they laugh at everybody and think they are better than everybody--and they are deadly serious about it.
