HOLY CARP!!!
I'm supposed to practice arpeggios this week in the key of C and D flat.

I can do major, minor, and diminished.

I forget what the heck the dominant is. I know the dominant is G, in the key of C, but that's about it.

:help:

Anyone? Anyone?

You're right -- in C Major, the dominant note is G, because the dominant note is always the 5th note of the scale. (So in Db Major, the dominant is Db Eb F G Ab.)

A dominant chord is a kind of 7th chord... i.e., a major chord + the note that is a 7th above the dominant:

G B D + F, (or just G B D F).

for C Major.

In D-flat major, the dominant note is Ab, so the dominant 7th chord is:

Ab, C, Eb + Gb
(Ab C Eb Gb)

All right, thanks. I'm going to print this out, and take it to my piano.

I thought you might respond, PJ.

I would give your teacher a call. If your teacher said "dominant" he/she meant just dominant - not dominant 7th. If she meant dom. 7th she would have said so. At least that's my experience with the teachers I've had.

Before practicing something the wrong way I would clear it up first with the teacher.

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

This is Rosemary's teacher, so I'm pretty sure she meant just plain dominant.

He gave me a hand-written note that says "Dominant -- 7th of next chromatic."

He never returns phone calls.
