Speaking of Making a Movie

Sundance is a pipe dream. If he ever gets his first feature length film made, I'm sure he'll be making applications to enter it all over the place. To have a film accepted there would be to "make it."

Q-L, his writing skills are excellent, I'd say. Ever since he was a kid, he'd put a lot of effort into story boarding and planning everything out in what seemed to me to be excruciating detail. But, yes, I think I he's going to have to broaden the appeal - at least from the last couple of films he's done - before he's going to gain the interest of backers with $$$$$.

Have you seen the movie, "Pi"? That was a Sundance winner. Soundtrack by Clint Mansell, who also did the soundtrack for their other movie, "Requiem For A Dream."

Both are solid movies. :thumb:
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Yep. I liked "Pi" a lot better, though. "Requiem" was just damn depressing!

Yeah man, it was a serious downer but I thought it was very good. The used tons of cool camera tricks, just like in Pi.

Also 2006's The Fountain a very abstract, love-it-or-hate-it movie, which I ultimately really enjoyed.

Film festivals are a great way to get shown and he's actually had some good luck in that vein. He's had films shown in the Brooklyn Underground Film Festival the past two years. But, I don't think festivals generally offer much in the way of funding unless you hit it big and win a prize at one of the really big ones; it's more the prestige of being selected and making a name for yourself.

Tajikistan! Now there's an idea. He might actually go for it. He was in Alabama this summer filming a Viet Nam war reenactment, living in a tent with cherry bombs flying over his head. Why not Tajikistan.

I'll mention the film makers forums idea to him.

Nice to know Alabama is akin to a third world country....Saban deserves no better....

I am so adjective that I verb nouns!
Here's my 2 cents: pitch it to Wal*Mart -- $100K to not make it.

That will fund his next four projects.

Now that is an idea we can take to the bank!

Good lord are you predictable. I knew you'd jump on that. I was referring to the rustic (to put it mildly) setting of the reenactment, dug out latrines, make-shift, outddoor cold showers, etc. If I think of it while I'm at my other computer, I'll post a couple of pictures. It was pretty incredible the lengths those guys went to to try to make it realistic.

Just put it on my Netflix queue. Have any of you seen any of Lars von Tier films? He's another one of those love him or him directors. I totally loved Breaking the Waves. That was the first of his films I'd seen - oh, and, I had also seen Dancer in the Dark. After seeing BTW, my son told me about him, and the whole Dogme thing which is right up his ally. At his recommendation, I saw Dogville which I liked but was harder to wrap myself around and shortly thereafter when I was visiting him in NY we were able to see Manderlay during its maiden run at the IFC. Now I'm waiting for the third film of the trilogy to come out.
