In the temperature thread that Plays started I posted a link to my home town where I was born, raised, and live now. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jasper,_Indiana

I got to thinking about the following quote that was in the link……
Quote:

In 2005, Jasper was ranked in the top ten best places to live in the US, by Relocate America, a national realty relocation firm, which consults and helps clients find desirable places across the country to live. Jasper was previously ranked in the top 25 in Norman Crampton's 1992 book 100 Best Small Towns in America.

There are actually quite a few people that read these rankings and relocated here because it is IMO true. The interesting thing is that once these people get here and get settled you will find most of them attending meetings of the school board, zoning board, city council, area planning, etc, etc, voicing complaints about things that are and things that in their opinion should be. These newcomers write the most letters to the editor of our local paper voicing opinions about things that should be changed in the community.
The majority of the newcomers become disgruntled and only stay around three years. It is not because they were not welcomed or they were harassed and discriminated against, it is because of their attitude. The majority of the long term residents made it and like it what it is, one of the top ten places in the U.S. to live.
My position is simple: you jumped to an unwarranted conclusion and slung mud on an issue where none was deserved. Quirt 03/08/09

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
lb,

They just don't get the 'who's your Daddy?' thing. You don't come into an established small town that is running well enough to get a rating like that and think the current residents are just dying for sophisticated, worldly you to come in and fix everything. They're not rubes and they've seen it before.

After you've been around a few years and have honestly tried to pitch in and help out you MIGHT get someone to listen to your ideas about change. Maybe.
