A recent comment about n00bs got me to thinking about some of the "old timers" here. I, for one, still consider myself pretty hip and trendy baby compared to the likes of James Bond, that Austin Powers bloke, Homer Simpson and other people who may or may not dye their hair. I joined the human race in the fab and groovy sixties, when some of you fading hippies were actually planning on visiting stinky fields full of men with long hair and flared trousers. I suspect some other posters may have attended King Edward VII's coronation, even if it was in-vitro.

So, how long have you been completely out of touch with the modern world?
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

Oh that's easy. Once you have a teenager and start saying things like 'groovy' and 'cool' you get caught out pretty quickly. So, I'd say a couple of years ago I came to terms with my right angles.

In the summer, me and my mother would spend a couple of weeks at the sea. To get there we would call a horse driven carriage to bring us to the train station. Puffing locomotives would slowly take us to our destination and to kill some time we would dine in the restaurant-wagon. To call father at home we would go to the Post and telegraph station and ask to be connected to the capital city. After an hour we could enter a wooden booth and talk using a hand held ear piece and shouting to the microphone on the wall.

And we would write postcards to friends and buy souvenirs mad of sea-shells.

Our first car was a hybrid. It was made of two cars , a pre 1940 Ford (the back part) and a Russian Pobeda. Maximum speed : 60km/h (and starting to fall apart).

Jojo Stalin died the year I was born.

Finally
I was born in New York, in Brooklyn, as a matter of fact, the son of legal immigrants who came from DP camps in Germany after the war. My folks had a 2nd floor walkup apartment, and my father worked as a gardener for $0.75 an hour while he learned the English language. We had a party line for the phone, and didn't get a television 'til I was 3.

We moved to the Chicago area in 1955. We took the New York Central railroad. That train, by the way, derailed in Pennsylvania and the Engineer and Fireman were killed in the wreck. Once in Chicago, we lived in a 2nd floor walkup apartment, 'til my parents bought their home - for $27,500.

My parents had many of their friends living in Chicago. I remember going to one of their homes (I think in 1958) to watch Peter Pan with Mary Martin on TV. It was in COLOR!

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Looks EXACTLY like the TV my sister and I had in our room. :lol2: I was born in 1969, and I think that TV was old already. LOL
