For about three years I think. Like many people, found Piano World through a piano search on the internet, then dipped my toe into the "Coffee Room".

Then followed the group to over to here and signed up as member #9 here. I publicize this fact outside of this forum but for some reason, it doesnt seem to lead to bigger and better things. :P

No, no, no, not at all. See, my post yesterday was about being despondent over perceived failure. You all slapped me around, and gave me some good cheer.

On the writing forums, everyone is working on a brilliant manuscript, and people complain over being tired from writing all night. I don't believe any of them, they're all posturing.

So much less honesty there. Everyone is trying to impress.

I understand. That's why I quit hanging out on spirituality forums and poetry forums. Got tired of the poseurs.

At least on a piano forum, I can say I'm a sh'tty pianist, and people say, "Well, it just takes practice. It's cool...." LOL Musicians tend to be a pretty honest lot.

They are all so optimistic and encouraging on those forums, it gets on my nerves.

It's not just that, but they never discuss the important things in life. Like whether one should get a tatoo, or belly ring. No, no, they have to talk about their art like there's nothing else bigger out there.

Exhausting, I say.

Yeah, well you have a lot of company in that boat...

One should not brag overly much about one's playing. Sooner or later you will probably have to play in from of someone from here. Better they should be pleasantly surprised.

See, now that's the kind of wisdom I look for in a forum. You're wise, Frank. Every once and a while you come up with a real gem.

that's why singers aren't members of the 'musician's union' (we have our own) and why, for the most part, I can't stand most of the people I used to work with. I still get grossed out thinking about people speaking of their instruments in third person. The really pretensious would refer to it as "the voce" (thereby demonstrating their stunning command of the Italian language  )

Makes me want to put on a negligee, grab a dagger, and do Donizetti on their sorry ass.

I've been accused of being spoiled. My stock reply is, "No I'm not. I just smell that way."

Right on, Deb. Pretentiousness is one of the most annoying traits in people, no matter how good they are. I figure it like this: No matter how good I ever become, there will always be someone better. No matter how strong, wise, or skilled, there's nothing I am doing that plenty of people before me haven't done better, and people to come after me, will do better. The greatest performers I've ever known, have also cultivated a good bit of modesty and humility. It just makes them that much greater, in my eyes.

See, Deb makes her points well.

I remember when she said she'd rather be crucified than have a garage sale.

Her opinions are strong, her reactions are clear, and her imagery leaves no doubt where the woman stands.

You have to admire that.

There is not a woman on this forum whom I don't admire. Nary a one. Now, the guys....

I too would rather have sharp pencils stuck in my ears than hold a garage sale.

Just give the crap to the Goodwill and take the tax deduction. You'll net more money, only spend an hour schlepping it down there and it will ALL be GONE!

With the new tax rules, you have to do more documentation, including photos and appraisals, for the stuff you donate to Goodwill. That's a pain.

I've had two garage sales in my life, and am always shocked at how much money people will give me for my crap stuff, more than I would have gotten as a tax deduction. And I get rid of almost all of it too.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!

I believe I joined PW sometime in the late summer/early fall of 2004. I never go back to PW so I don't have a definate date. I was surfing the web trying to find sites on pianos because I needed to sell mine after we downsized to a really small house. I ended up selling it on Ebay.

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D
