HOLY CARP!!!
Hah, I think I just found my first-ever RMMP post. Some piano sales weasel who had the same name as me had just made a really schlocky sales pitch, which made me first step out of the shadows as a lurker:

Just a quick note: I'm about to start learning piano as an adult, and have
been checking out this newsgroup on occasion. I'm sure I'll be posting
questions, comments, etc. I happen to share the same first name (even the
same spelling) as the guy posting this ad, and I guess I would just say as
politely as possible that this sort of post isn't exactly my style. For
future reference, please don't flame me if you see my name on a post and
think it's the other person.

December 29, 1999.

And the first person to ever reply?

Glad to meet you, D_____! We'll all look forward to your posts.

I don't think the "used car salesman D_____" will be back much, though. I think
he expected to dazzle us with his brilliant marketing skills and then sit back
and print sales orders out of his email. Actual participation is probably of no
interest to him.

Maybe you ought to call yourself D_____ "not the car salesman" L___! (hope
you're not a car salesman) Although even car salesmen seem to have given up on
that type pitch.

Just a little fun. Welcome to the group.

I remember you Radu. Your last name started with an F. You used to make fun of me.

I made the huge mistake of posting under my real name. :hair: Then I wised up and posted under a screen name a bit later.

Really? Plays, you have to PM me & tell me who you "were." Just doing that search for my first post brought back names of lots of people I'd forgotten about!

I think I washed ashore in early spring of '02. Maybe the latter part of '01.

Can't quite remember although for the first while I stayed out of the CR.

Radu Focshaner. I still post on RMMP using my full real name and my valid email (visible on newsgroups servers).

(I also used Mobutu Mbawawe, Mariana Vintila - the girl Larry(Pete Ethridge, esq.) was willing to carry her school bag, Nostradamus, GWBush, Jeremiah de Saint Amour)

I still don't understand the American paranoia of being afraid to use the real name in a piano newsgroup.

So give me a clue about your sn....

I posted on RMMP starting in late 1999. I was member #75 on PW.

I've met a number of folks in this overall community (RMMP,PW,TNCR, &WTF) in person over the years and spoken to others on the phone. Very interesting folks indeed!

I joined in October of 2004 - so I voted 3 years.

I was just out of college, and was bored at work. I was looking online for a chat room or forum where I could debate the upcoming Presidential election, but my company banned such forum/chat sites. So I searched to the deep ends of the interweb until I found a site called PianoWorld of all places that wasn't on my company's blacklist and I believe my first thread there was called "Liberals never win ANY argument!". Remember that doozy of a thread?

Oh, I believe "Freedom" was the first member to greet me there. :)

Anyway, so I left on vacation in April of 2005 and came back to find the OCR shut down and I was sent links (I think by Peggy) to the WTF and TNCR new forum sites. And I drew the long straw...

I joined the old PW in 99. I came on to ask a question about a used Mason & Hamlin, I think. I was a lurker at RMMP, but didn't post there much at all.

Just for fun, here are a couple of links to the old pianoworld forums - the first one has the thread were Kenny talks about buying his BB!

PMMO ?

Larry Fine wrote a book... he never posted on RMMP !

The radio talk show (from the coming September) guy was Davey, the Pomposity Slayer (I managed to track him down - from an ad he posted, but then he claimed it was the address and the phone of a friend).
